Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Installation on the latter went according to instructions, sensor installed correctly, etc.
Leading evidence: 'Install correctly, etc' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install correctly, etc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. It started happening about 2 weeks ago, which is also when I installed the K&N cold air intake.

The tech had never seen this before, but they replaced the MAF and I haven't had that error again.

Otherwise you might end up replacing the MAF only to contaminate the new one.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
Need some help.
The 2 above mentioned lights come on when I hit the accellerator hard (let's say pull hard above 5,000 rpm). I am clueless as to what could cause this.
It started happening about 2 weeks ago, which is also when I installed the K&N cold air intake. Installation on the latter went according to instructions, sensor installed correctly, etc.
Was wondering whether there could be any connection between the 2 ?
Anybody had this happen to them before ?
Need a hint as to where to start looking.
Thanks,
I had a problem like this. I would get the ABS light on (ABS disabled) when letting off the throttle after a full throttle, when the car was warmed up. I had already turned off the PSM so the PSM light was already on. This went on for two weeks. The dealer put it on the computer and the error was the MAF! The tech had never seen this before, but they replaced the MAF and I haven't had that error again. Very possible this is your problem as well considering how close the MAF is to the air filter.
its funny how many electrical glitch german cars have. sometime i trick the handbrake light and it doesn't come on
but yeah i have the k&N cold air intake and i haven't had that problem but then again you might have touched the MAF the wrong way so it might need replacement like the post above me says.
Yes, the Bosch MAF sensor element does not get along very well with oiled K&N air filters, water or just about anything else that is not air. You might want to go visit a local autoparts store and pickup some MAF or electrical contact cleaner (1st image) and spray (clean) the sensor element in the direction of the arrows in the drawing below (2nd image). Then remove the K&N filter and either figure out a way to remove some of the oil from it or get rid of the filter altogether. The ABS & PSE lights aren't continuously illuminated so you probably haven't permanently damaged the MAF?
Prices below are MSRP so the MAF is probably available for close to 50% of that from the discounting mail-order Porsche dealerships (Sunset Imports, etc.)

996-606-124-00 $401.26USD MY99-MY01 e-Gas
986-606-125-01 $360.88USD MY02+
but don't go replacing your MAF just yet. Clean it first and maybe try running WITHOUT the K&N. Otherwise you might end up replacing the MAF only to contaminate the new one.
