under NO circumstances should you ever change the color of your car, save for a full frame off restoreation, even then, original color is best, imo

Lets say a good respray costs you $6000.00, and when and if you re-sell it take another $5000.00 to $7000.00 off the price of the car, because thats the hit you will take if you change the colour.........I say for the difference in the money go find a Dark Blue TT....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gents,
After many of miles on these SORRY New JERSEY Highways My Targa has more rock pits, paint chips, scratches then my daughters bike.
With that said, I need to have my baby re-painted, any idea of a cost ? I know I have to do it, no matter what.
Also I would like to paint it Dark Blue this time, any ideas, comments, etc. Thanks in advance amigo's. Hope all is well.
I do not recommend an entire car repaint, for sure it will lower the value of your car if not done properly and raise too many questions comes time of resale. And to get the entire car repainted PROPERLY it will cost you anywhere from $3k-$5k, as they will need to remove all the trimms and modlings.
If just rock chips in the front of the car I would just recommend a repaint of the front bumper cover or the hood not the entire car.
Also I don't recommend chaning of the color... It would be cheaper to trade the car in for another one with the color you want.
i will go to this body shop this weekend. will keep you posted.

Man to change the color is expensive. They have to remove pretty much everything in the car to do that. Remember they have to paint the insides of the doors, etc to change the color. I don't know the cost, but it would be cheaper to trade the car for another one.
I would never change the color unless you plan on taking it to the grave with you. Lets say a good respray costs you $6000.00, and when and if you re-sell it take another $5000.00 to $7000.00 off the price of the car, because thats the hit you will take if you change the colour.........I say for the difference in the money go find a Dark Blue TT....
well if the car looks terrible with chips you have to repaint it so I would repaint it the same color. That will help you sell the car for more money. And then you can find the Blue one. Then after 30 days look into doing a full clear bra on the front end. In the GT3 forum there is a clear bra sponsor that do fender panels on very expensive cars maybe they will be touring the north east soon..
Black car requires lots of special care. Very methodical cleaning techiques with certain types of towels. Otherwise your very expensive repaint will last all of 6 months if you don't wash and detail the paint properly.
I had a black car, never again.
hey all, my family owns a high end repair shop in orlando fl. We actually do work for the local Porsche dealer as well as M.benz, Lexus and Infiniti. Feel free to call and ask for myself, AJ, if anyone has any questions regarding large or small collosion repair or just paint work.

I find it strange how so many people who participate in this forum think about resale value first and foremost. I think we should be more concerned with driving, caring for and enjoying our cars, but that's just me. I have never thought of a car as an investment.
Paul - I do not concur with your general statement
people... think about resale value first and foremost.
While that may be true in some cases, I think in this case others are trying to make sure he understands the potential future consequences, monetarily speaking, of 1) painting the entire car and/or 2) painting the car a different color.
I think they are just trying to avoid the potential for "painters remorse"... a.k.a. "if only I had known...." In the end it is still his decision, but now he has more information to help him make the best decision for his situation and does so with his eyes wide open.
If it's done well, painting the entire car will result in a great looking car but it will be fairly expensive; probably around $7,000 at least. Painting the car a different colour will be much more labour intensive involving the removal of many more things. This makes it a riskier proposition as it may not all be put back together exactly right.
If you do your research and get it painted by someone who really does great work and will stand behind their work, you'll be fine really. If I keep my car another three or four years, I may do a full repaint myself.
RJ, just have the front nose repainted, then have a 3M clear bra installed. I have the clear bra and it really does work very well for the small rock marks.
My 2001 was black and didn't have the clear bra and it was a mess... not only the bumper but the entire front hood would need to have been repainted.
Like other's have said, if the car doesn't have some sentimental value you maybe better off just trading it in for a new one, but have the clear bra installed
Rob
Gents thanks again for your comments, I will not change the color, BLACK is BEAUTIFUL and a Pain in the a$$ to maintain, but after all is said and done, I truly love it. I own this baby, therefore I never think about resale value, I buy the cars I do for the pure enjoyment of them and driving experience. I do like the mindset of "C4S Surgeon" "Just repaint the nose if that. I'd just leave 'em, as battle scars!"
I will however have the front bonnet and bumper cared for and leave the rest as SCARS of life. :-) Thanks again.
I think you are talking about these guys.

They've done work on my gt3, among other cars. They are the best, but don't know how far they travel. Worth a try though.
