Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got the bug! Thought I would last longer, but can't wait. So first mod question. What suspension set-up would you recommend for the C4s? Not planning on doing any tracking, just want to lower it a little and a little stiffer suspension. Anyone know of a good shop in Orange County that does good work? What did they charge you for it? Thanks for the help and suggestions.

POST 3Original post

Second what Justin said. X73. Contact Chris (C4S Surgeon) for his take.

POST 4Original post

For the $$$ for just street. Do H&R Springs and H&R sway bars. Cost you about $600ish depending where you go. The X73 or a coilover setup would be ideal. But if you got the bug now, the track bug is next!!! OC go to GMG Racing. Google it

POST 5Original post

I had the X73 installed last month, and I don't have any experience with the other choices, so I'll limit my opinions to the X73. I have one question for you. Do you find the C4S suspension stiff for the average daily drive? If you do, the X73 will be even stiffer. Stiffer engine mounts will also be installed as part of the kit, and you'll sense the engine vibrations at all RPM's a bit more. It does lower the US C4S 30 mm all around. It is non-adjustable. It maintains the current rake, which to some people is a bit nose high. If you are doing it for looks, and never go to the track, then I don't think it's what you are looking for. It biases the car towards the track, and compromises on the street. It does not result in a a slammed-nose-to-the-ground look, since it was engineered more for performance than looks by engineers at Porsche. For me, it's perfect. It's OEM Porsche, and developed by Porsche specifically to lower and enhance the performance of the C4S. Car is lower, stiffer, turns in faster and flatter. I plan to do as much tracking as time, money and wife will allow. The street drive is secondary but necessary. Which brings up another point. If you EVER go to the track, you WILL be addicted, and WILL want to track as much as time, money and better half will allow. With that in mind, if you think you might even CONSIDER going to the track just once, then maybe you should get the X73 and be ready for that eventuality .

POST 6Original post

If you're doing zero tracking and want to lower it a little with something stiffer then the X73 is a good option. I wouldn't install the solid motor mounts that come with it... It'll ride stiffer than now though. You could go with PSS9s as well which give you more adjustability in terms of ride height and dampening but that might be more than you want. Most people that have them say their car rides better than stock and obviously corners flatter. JIC's will likely be too stiff and you probably don't need/want all the camber plates, solid pillow ball mounts etc... making noises. Springs are obviously the cheapest route to go but the handling will go out of the window because the stock shocks will be even more underdamped for those stiffer springs. You'll get a good deal of pogoing There are a good few places down South like Lucent, GMG and so forth so you'll be in good hands

POST 7Original post

If just looks, do the RoW kit, same ride you have now, just lower. The stock shocks ain't gonna like shorter springs for very long, as Alex mentioned .Plus the labor to install just springs is the same as a whole setup. I would def install the stiffer motor mounts in a X73, they're there for a reason. If you don't install them, no component of the X73 will be covered by the two year part warranty, and you'll crack your current mounts. Makes no sense to me not to install them. I wouldn't waste my time/money on a pss9 setup, no real advantage in my eyes and kills any resale value, ask Yetis. The porsche engineers actually do know what they're doing with suspensions you know.

POST 8Original post

I realize that the ROW has the same spring and shock rates as the US set up. But when I changed to ROW, the car was lowered and I actually think it rides better. It seems to absorb bumps rather than thrashing over them if that makes sense.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Correction-I should of said not tracking the car as of yet. Don't want to start something then have to change it all down the road. And agrre if I'm paying for labor might as well just get it all done at once. So I guess it looks like the X73 is the best option for the C4. Sounds like I might have to go out and see the guys a GMG this weekend. Anyone had any work done there? Who should I ask for? Thanks for starting this slippery slope.

POST 10Original post

In the spring, porsche usually has a big parts sale, try braman, brandywine or suncoast in a couple of weeks. Gert also has it on sale now, about 2k. I paid 1695 from braman last yr. Be sure the shop installs the motor mounts too, dollars to doughnuts they'll try and talk you out of it! You CAN'T go wrong with an oem X73 setup.

POST 11Original post

Chris, stop giving out that 1695 price. I heard you before, I couldn't wait and bought it off sale, and now I shudder everytime I think of it. Just kidding . Chris is absolutely right 4s. Wait a few months, keep checking the sites Chris mentioned, and you'll probably see a savings of up to $1K from list price.

POST 12Original post

Get the ROW springs for your model car, under $500 and change nothing else. the C4S has special bilstiens for the C4S only and when you go to the ROW springs, you get a slightly stiffer feel and much better lowered look. Order from any dealer. I like Hendricks ( N.C. )

POST 13Original post

I would not suggest changing out to the springs ONLY without matching the shocks that come with the RoWM030 kit. Trust me, the RoWM030 kit is well worth the 1K it costs. IMHO, it should be the standard suspension on these USDOT ride height 4x4's!

POST 14Original post

Right, you can't just change the springs, the shocks will be on the bumpers(int and ext). If you're gonna do the springs, do the skocks too, exact same amount of work. Plus you won't be changing your fried shocks a month later.
