Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2002 C4S and i just did my 200 cell x-pipe install over the weekend. I noticed when i did the install that i had two different type of AFTER cat O2 sensors. One was 996.606.118.00 and the other was 996.606.178.01, they looked different and wasn't 100% sure if one of them was wrong or they needed to be two seperate type? From research it seems that the correct one is the 996.606.178.01 but wanted to know if i need to change out 996.606.118.00 or it doesn't make a difference. It seems that one if for 2002-2005 and one is 1999-2001. I'm NOT getting any CEL after the 200 cell x-pipe install and the Porsche is running and idling fine. Thanks, Mark

POST 2Original post

Porsche 911 (996) M96.01/02/04 exhaust system -01 Correct P/N is 996 606 118 01 Porsche 911 (996) M96.03 exhaust system 02- Correct P/N is 996 606 178 01 So it depends on whether you have a M96.01/02/04 motor or a M96.03. Look at your engine number. It is both engine specific and year specific. Mine=M96/01: The different P/N's may be more due to the evolution of the DME software, i.e., 5.2.2 for 98/99, 7.2 for 00/01 and 7.8 for 02/04. I really think it depends on your engine number.

POST 3Original post

I think it's a good idea to replace it with the correct one for your car/engine. However, maybe only after you fully tested the new 200-cell cats setup.

POST 4Original post

It shouldn't matter, an o2 sensor really only looks for one thing. So if it plugs in and it is working, it is fine

POST 5Original post

Year by year the M96 has had several different O2 sensor part numbers.Be careful. Don't use the Bosch part number. Use the Porsche Part number and then cross over to Bosch - not the other way around. ASk me....

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It'd better be unless someone replaced it with a lesser 3.4L
