Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Around town on straight line accels? Absolutely (but not significantly). It has a monster V8 with darn near 400hp. You could give it all it can handle if youwant to get on your clutch pretty abusively. On the track though, that is not even a fair question
There are too many cars with similar 0-60 times for you to mess with. Don't judge the sportiness of your 996 by relative acceleration on the street.
Hmmm, I can't find any performance numbers but the story is....... I was accelerating from a standstill while he was already at around 50-60. I saw him coming fast but couldn't keep him behind me. He evened up then let off as I shifted to 4th.
Have you tried the JaguarUSA website?
Jaguar? If I were him I wouldn't be going that fast right after a serious operation like a sex change.
The most I found was a 0-60 @ 5.3. No 1/4 times.
road and track usually has those times......
put yours thru a corner and try to let the jag keep up...he probably will be catapulted....and you will just drive on
OK. R&T numbers for Jaguar 2003 S-Type R: 0-60: 5.2 0-100" 13.0 1/4 mile: 13.7@102.7 top speed: limited to 155 g: .85 slalom mph: 65.8 I can't find numbers for the 996 Cab other than a C4. C4 cab has slower numbers except for g's, C2 has faster ones compared to the Jag. I think he just had too much of a head start in speed on you. Youd definitely kill him on a road course.
I'm parking the car for the rest of the day because two WRX's just attacked me..
That's pretty quick.. I ran 102mph in the 1/4 even though I missed third so maybe I would have had a chance off the line. 400hp vs 300hp at highway speeds is a battle between aerodynamics I guess. All I can say is that jag sure seemed fast or faster.
Don't sweat it. I get attacked all the time by ricers and other crap in both of my cars. Everyone wants to "Beat the Porsche"... more so than the M3. At the end of the day, you still have a 996 and they still have a schiessewagen that gets lucky going straight for a couple blocks.
yeah don't pet the sweatty stuff as has been said you have a porsche remember those with something to prove, can't and those with nothing to prove don't and anyways just curious were you taking it to the redline with slight gas while you clutched which keeps the rpms up and the power band
supercharge it. No more problems
By the time I finish shifting the RPMs are at the least at 5k, right in the powerband. BTW, I don't mind the attack it's just I don't like to be wreckless multiple times per day.
I know, that's what I was thinking! Once the warmer weather comes along the top will be down and I won't be driving like a maniac.
There's your problem! I don't think I ever get BELOW 5K on a track day. That flat 6 is just getting warmed up at 5K!!!!
I totally agree.
The bigest advantage that the 996 has over the Jag is curb weight, and that advantage was largely offset by the fact that the Jag was already travelling at 60 MPH. Next time you should try the Jag from a dead stop. You should jump to a big early lead which you should be able to hold.
hey. if you are so bothered by two sti's or mitsu's. beating you than vette, or 'stand GT is for you.
the best thing to do is not to let them race you.....just cruise away from the traffic light and let them take off.....who is the idiot when you just catch up with them at the next light and cruise along top down...music on and hair in the wind. If you really want to race fo to the track or if you can't let go..and have to win...get a twin turbo!
If you really want to race fo to the track or if you can't let go..and have to win...get a twin turbo! Yes you could and be very fast but at the risk of losing engine longevity. Ten years ago a 993 was one of the fastest cars on the road without FI. Today there are loads of cars that are competitive with the 911 series of cars. Even the handling of these cars have improved dramatically. In the ole days the muscle cars were faster than Porsches in a straight line, but the handling of Porsches was far superior. Today that's no longer the case. The 996 and 997 still are superior to most cars in the way they communicate with the driver and of course in fit and finish. It's up to each of us to determine if those virtues are worth the premium Porsche charge.
Maybe I wasn't clear. The rpms never go below 5k by the time I finish shifting. I hardly get a chance to look but when I do the 5 is the first number I look for, since according to dyno sheets that is near where the power band begins to increase.
I bet he was going faster than 50-60 more like 80!!!
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...44857911927689 Yep, though the drivers input was off, this is what would have happened to the jag in the twisties.
They weren't wearing helmets and both were fine... wow. Great video, just goes to show you no matter how good of a driver you are, the car is your weak spot.
