Have heard of private party sales that have got CPO'd becasue the private party seller was buying a new P-Car and used their dealer (agreed upon in advance and contingent on the new car deal) as a "pass-through" to certify it for the new buyer.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

okay so I bought the car, which has about 1 month left on warranty, it is one owner vehicle 26k miles 2002 pretty good condition, from the miles I am assuming the previous owner pretty much babied the car, however the dealer suggest me to spend $3000 on warranty and my deadline to purchase is 03-24-06 what do you guys think I should do? I have no idea.........should I check out everything before the warranty runs out. Also my rear right exhaust tip got push inside a little bit about an inch versus the other side the dealer said probraly the previous owner got it from the rear parking, have any of you guys had similar issue before? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

A warranty can give piece of mind, but I think you should be able to find coverage for less money.

POST 3Original post

Is it CPO or aftermarket they are trying to sell you? The CPO costs roughly $1500 and that is the BEST way to go. The aftermarket crap is suspect and gives them the most $$$ in their pocket and several of the companies have gone under. Just an FYI.

POST 4Original post

Yes make sure its the Porsche CPO warranty. If its the CPO warranty, I'd get it....if not, find a dealer to give you the Porsche CPO warranty. I am not a big fan of aftermarket warranties, usually lots of hassle to get things fixed.

POST 6Original post

Don't bother with an additional warranty, you're betting your gonna have a major failure, you won't. These cars are bulletproof, more so than the 993 imo. An RMS is nothing compared to a valve guide failure. The worst thing that could happen is the RMS, an 800$ repair.

POST 7Original post

Not to be a bearer of bad news but in 2 years of 996 ownership I have had over $15K in warranty work.....The worst thing that could happen is a premature engine failure, and they happen. Mine happened at 73k miles. Not to mention, 2 cooling fans, exhaust gasket leak, 2 02 sensors, 1 MAF sensor, valve cover leak, power top latch, rear boot cover assembly, coolant tank, plus a few other things....I love this car and I am keeping it for years, but saying a 4 year old Porsche will not have any problems is being highly optimistic.

POST 10Original post

If its from A porsche dealer I take it. If not have the car gone over good before warr is gone. Two put the three grand in the bank.I had A 964 for eight years put over 100,000 miles on it no big problems.Still running good when I traded it in.

POST 11Original post

Granted that the majority of 996 owners will find their cars to be very reliable with only minor mainteance being required. There are however a significant number of 996s that will require extensive maintenance up to an engine replacement. So IMO it's prudent to purchase an extended warranty, and by far the best from the perspectives of price and coverage is the CPO warranty offered by Porsche.

POST 12Original post

Oil change by dealer is $2-300. They will probably find something else to boost your visit up to $700 a clutch is in the thousands range.Do a search of these posts for prices. So an average year the maintenance MAY be hight. The fun factor is way beyond belief. I believe you are buying from a Saab dealer so your warranty is suspect. READ it carefully about what it covers before you get it. Does it cover seals?? This s not a cheap car to maintain but it is the fun-ist. Good luck and post pics on 03-25-06

POST 15Original post

huh? once again you talking out of your @ss. Into myself would be arrogance...which was not displayed. Talking out of your @ss would be ignorance...which you have displayed nicely....time and time again. You must get alot of satisfaction playing devil's advocate as often as you do or just enjoy dissenting in such uninformed manners. Either way, it is a wonderful example of somebody that is very insecure. Done playing with your type

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

can I buy the CPO after my manufacture warranty runs out or before it runs out??

POST 17Original post

Has to be done by the dealer BEFORE the sale is complete of a pre-owned car. Cannot be done post hoc. Unless you have a dealer that will "buy" your car back from you, certify it, then "sell" it back to you at the "buy" price plus the CPO cost of $1500. Have heard of private party sales that have got CPO'd becasue the private party seller was buying a new P-Car and used their dealer (agreed upon in advance and contingent on the new car deal) as a "pass-through" to certify it for the new buyer.

I agree Chris. But dealing with trolls like fast1 that bring nothing of contribution to this board but teenage rhetoric bore me and prefer not to deal with them anymore. And in predictable fashion he should be chiming in with something of "great worth" before to long (detect sarcasm ) to try and get a reply out of me to continue this worthless banter. By the way.....love you definition of happiness!!! So true.
