Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

New shocks, springs, roll bar links a year ago really tightened things up.

All records came with it so it didn't take me long to realize this was my car, after a clean PPI.

What have you replaced on the engine if anything in your 8 years.

I know it's easy to want to share the good news for pat-on-the-back replies, but I'm very curious if this is the original 2002 factory engine or an "AT" reman that was replaced under warranty.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

First of all, congratulations! It's great to see high mileage 996 cars out there. Second, could you tell us more about the history of the car? I know it's easy to want to share the good news for pat-on-the-back replies, but I'm very curious if this is the original 2002 factory engine or an "AT" reman that was replaced under warranty. What kind of service has been done to the engine? Do you change you own oil? Brand? Viscosity? What have you replaced on the engine if anything in your 8 years. AOS, IMS, RMS??? Clutch?
We could really learn for you! I hope you'll share these details. Thank you, sir.

OK, a little history. This is the original engine. I looked for 6 months to find the right car. Wanted one with no more than 70k originally, but I was advised to look for one regularly driven - no garage queens. This had just turned 100,300 miles when I bought it, with new clutch just installed, along with new rotors, pads and tires all around. Dr. owned it from new, so it was driven to work each day and parked in the garage at the hospital. All records came with it so it didn't take me long to realize this was my car, after a clean PPI.
First two years were pretty trouble free, except for AOS. I replaced IMSB at 144,000, taking out a perfectly good bearing, but I never regretted it. RMS changed at same time, however within a few months it was leaking. Shop guaranteed their work so they replaced it again for no charges. At that time I started using DT40 and soon added magnetic drain plug and spin on filter. Also started having my oil analyzed with each change,
and so far everything looks good. Yes, I change my own oil. New shocks, springs, roll bar links a year ago really tightened things up.
i add about a half quart between changes (3-4,000 mile intervals). Car has easily exceeded my expectations. I won't be happy if it blows up someday, but I will understand that I've had a good run for a fraction of a new one.
"Looks like the cat's been in there too."
Ha! No cats, but my Jack Russell loves to ride with me, and he sheds like crazy. I put a seat cover on the passenger seat when he comes with me.
