Other than that I guess I'll check with my mechanic about the other possible issues.

Should I do an oil change if the car has not been running much for the last year?

What are the regular yearly maintenance required for our cars to run perfectly?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just bought this car little over a month ago. It's a 2002 996 Turbo. Bought this fairly cheap in Vancouver, Canada and hoping that the value will be going up. For now, I'll daily drive it. It had soem black victor equipment stabil's that I'm going to be putting in the market in the future. I've bought some 19" RUF wheels from Montreal, Canada and refinished them. It has the original RUF spacers for the 996 and the car came with a paint matched RUF wing! Unfortunately, it's a Tiptronic but it's a daily driver so... I hope I'll enjoy it. It was an EX USA car and has only 48k miles on it. I'm getting TERRIBLE gas mileage on the car right now at 18L/100km or 13MPG... I'm thinking this is because of the 19" Heavy wheels. Any other thoughts? Looking to revert the rear LED tail lights into the original WB tail lights in the future. Any thoughts on driving your 996 in the light snow? Salt? Any advice is helpful! Thanks!
A good set of 17's and blizzak tires for the winter months will go a long way toward snow driving comfort. I did have to drive my mk1 c2 in the slush and snow last year and it did suprising well with old michelin ps2 tires.
also not sure about the turbos but i hate the way 19" rims and tires feel on my car. The 18's r much smoother and the perfomance is noticably better.
Nice car, I love the way those look, wish someone made reps in 18 they seem to be non existent anymore. If you don't like the ride or MPG then step down to 18s, cheaper tires and much better ride. I had 19s on my E46 M3 and they were awful and I hated them.
Congratulations! I had a C4S 996 that I daily drove through Chicago winters, it was fantastic with some wintersport tires on the car! I would go with wintersport tires if the winter is mostly cold and only a few days of snow. When it snowed heavy, I just worked from home. With Blizzaks, I feel they are too gummy for the dry days. I like to keep some sport in my car.
Welcome! Be sure to hang out in the 996 Turbo forum as well (

). It will be a better resource for technical issues like your poor fuel mileage. Without knowing the maintenance history of your car the reasons for the poor mileage could be one (or all) of the following:
- Boost leak
- Old plugs/coil packs
- Bad MAF sensor
- Old air filter
- Bad aftermarket tune
There's plenty of other possible reasons too, but the 19" wheels aren't one of them.
Looks great! I wish I'd bought a 996 Turbo years back when they were still a little more affordable. Happy with my C4S, but, I didn't know at the time the engines didn't suffer from (potential) issues, so I passed. Kicking myself now! Can't beat those RUF wheels either. Welcome aboard!
Thanks everyone for the welcome messages!
I'll definitely check out the potential issues with the fuel milage. As far as ride quality, It has RUF lowering springs. They arn't too harsh compared to my old car that had coilovers. As far as maintenance issues, the car prior buying it had its engine re-sealed for all leaks which is a plus. Other than that I guess I'll check with my mechanic about the other possible issues.
I plan on driving it in the light snow with all seasons. but might change to a dedicated winter set up if it snows heavily.
My oil filter is probably 1 year old right now. As far as tuning, I do believe it's stock and coil packs were changed.

Thanks in advance!
Find a good indy and have them go over everything if you have't already and go form there. Then you will know exactly what needs attention. I would change the oil ASAP if it has not been done in a year or more.
