Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Never had any issues, all parts replaced have been elective PM with the exception of a few wear items outlined in the thread linked above.
Leading evidence: 'Replace have been elective pm' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bit premature' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). I'm in a similar boat, cheap roller and good price on a low mile factory replaced motor...5K miles in just over a year with only an AOS failure that scared the crap out of me.

It is probably a bit premature for me to be celebrating.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
38 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Anyway, the cup dripped water down the face of the AV system, caused the AC fan to go full high for a bit then back to normal but the radio/sound system went TU.
Thought it be fun to read about the great experiences a lot of us are having with our 996's versus the everyday barrage of IMS failures, chain issues, and cylinder chunking.
I'll start with that I have owned my 996 now since July. It came with a front suspension noise but somehow it somehow fixed itself. Been a while now. Maybe the car sat for so long it just needed to be driven a bit. I've only gone about 1,500 miles and the car now has about 71k on it. It is probably a bit premature for me to be celebrating. Before this car I had a 00 Boxster S for almost 5 years. I put about 8k on that one. Never had an issue. Changed oil and brake pads. Great car. I might try to get that one back.
Anyhow, thought it be great to hear the stories of guys (Gals)
with serious time in verses my piddly 4 months. Usage in length of ownership, mileage now and added, and expenses involved. I am starting to think if I just drive this like a normal car (most of the time), it might actually behave like a normal car as far as maintenance goes. Could be totally wrong but who knows.

I couldn't be happier acquiring my 2004 Carrera Cab two years ago and about 10K miles added to the odometer. Numerous oil changes, and replaced the coolant tank, ignition coils, driver's window regulator, tires, HVAC thermostat, floor mats, etc. So much fun driving the 996 in PA during the summer and west coast of FL during snowbird season. On a whim, submitted photo to the October PCA photo-of-the-month feature; surprised and happy to see it published!!

Almost 8 years of happy ownership here ....over 110K miles

It brings a smile to my face...every time I drive it (which is often)
Sure, Ill play.... just over two years in with a 2003 C4s and its been great. Bought it with 97k on the clock (110k now) and have been working to bring it up to my spec ever since, more on that in

(which is overdue for an update). Never had any issues, all parts replaced have been elective PM with the exception of a few wear items outlined in the thread linked above. By far the best sports car Ive ever owned, coming from many BMWs before that I have loved dearly. Driving it to the office today and been excited about that since I got up.
2 year owner of a y2k with 200k+ miles. Bought it as a roller for cheap and fixed a cracked oil pan flange. Filled it with oil and have been driving it since. Maybe ine day the motor would grenade but i have so little money into driving a great car i could care less.

Now, I'm just updating the parts that are known to cause issues as I can get to them.
No issues at all here. Not sure what people are doing to their cars, but mine doesn't share these problems, as the majority of us don't. Will have a 2-year update coming next month. I hate when I just get my car washed/detailed and can't drive it for a few days so it doesn't get crappy and dirty all over again, like this week. Clear skies next week though! Love driving it every day.
Second owner. I'll be at the Space Coast PCA Oktoberfast event on the 26th at Daytona International Speedway. For $20 you get to do 3-4 laps on the track (not the high banks). Been going to the track over 40 years but have never driven it, so I'm really looking forward to it. Hope to get some pictures. Just got some new
Michelin
Pilot Sport AS3+ tires so I'm good to go!
Bought my 03 C4S with 51k miles in June of this year. Put approx. 3k miles on the car in the 4 months of owning it. That cold start brings a smile to my face each and every time.
We got 3k miles since buying in June and love driving it. Things are breaking faster than we can fix them that is disappointing.
Argeo and De Jeeper what color are your cars?
Hello, we just wanted to chime in and see if you needed any assistance with the window regulator or motor on this Porsche. We specialize in rebuilding these regulators with metal at a much lower price than you will find anywhere else.
I have a 2000 c2 that I have been driving since June 2018 and have put just over 28,000 miles during that time.. it is my daily driver on the terrible Southern California roads.. Ive done oil changes, set of tires and had to replace the #1 coil pack..
Almost 11 mos on my 99 C4, 4th owner. 80k.
Worked through the usual deferred/preventive maintenance items. I enjoy both wrenching it and driving it. Every day I dont drive it is a day without sunshine.
Went in with eyes wide open. My dream car since I was a lad a LONG time ago, I wasnt going to let 34 modes of failure stop me. It could grenade tomorrow and I will have it rebuilt, no question.
But my relationship with automobiles is purely emotional, and I wouldnt want it any other way.
That
is a daily driver. If you think your roads are terrible, you don't want to visit Michigan.
Look what we have to drive on...
It's like a third-world country.
This guy get's it.
I purchased my 2003 996.2 Carrera Aero nearly 6 years ago @ 42,000 miles.
Now just flipped to 77,000 yesterday. (Check out trip odometer)
A lot money in preventive measures, safety items and non-essantial performance.
As far as positive take away from owning a 996, unless you get to drive one for at least a day, folks just couldn't appreciate the feeling.
My $.02

My GF and I enjoy the car as much as possible. These pictures are from a nice drive this past Sunday with friends. Since owning the car, weve met some incredible people and made new great friends.
Bought in Dec 18. Only a few thousand miles (59k now/55k when I bought). No problems except I think a sweating McD’s cup shorted out the aftermarket Kenwood audio system. Anyway, the cup dripped water down the face of the AV system, caused the AC fan to go full high for a bit then back to normal but the radio/sound system went TU.
Oh well, the car is amazing. You drive it hard for 40-60 min and it just smooths out and shifts wonderfully. It’s sublime.

Ive had my 04 C4S for only a few months and really enjoy the car. No problems at all, PO replaced IMS, clutch, AOS, water pump, tires, top and radio. 39K miles.
Bought mine almost three years ago, sight unseen on the other side of the country. Hopped in, drove it the 3,000 miles from California to NJ in 5 days. I haven't needed to do anything to it other than maintenance items, except for the passenger window regulator. Love this car.
It's finally cooling down in TX, so drove to the office this AM for the first time this week in the C4S, windows down and sunroof open, listening to that flat 6 howl is just the best thing in the world! Will definitely take 'the long way' home today.
