Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

I had 4 of 6 with cracks in them the last time I changed my plugs.
Leading evidence: 'Replace plugs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'set of plugs will solve the problem' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check condition of your coilpacks' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
Most likely a new set of plugs will solve the problem, but you should also check the condition of your coilpacks.

Suggestion
I would not do anything before I ran the current gas in the tank out and replaced with a fresh batch.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I usually don't push my 996 hard but have opened her up probably 4-5 times. Over the weekend, I banged out 1st and 2nd gear and there was something different this time. From around 6-7K, the acceleration would start to break up a bit. Anyone have an idea what may be causing this? It's an 02 with 30K miles...Thanks!
Are you sure that it wasn't 7000+? If you hit the redline, the limiter will engage - but this would feel more like a loss of power (for a short time) rather than a stutter...
I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in shortly.

Td, yes I'm sure it wasn't the limiter...this felt much "softer" than how those usually kick in. The car would accelerate until 6K and continue accelerating till 7K but would stutter for that 1K until I shifted into 2nd. She drives perfectly otherwise.
Actually it's almost certainly your cam timing shifting. That's what causes the little dip or little bounce in dyno charts at about 6500 rpms. I'm not sure why your's would have gotten worse.

If it is something out of the ordinary, I'd guess it's ignition related. Most likely a new set of plugs will solve the problem, but you should also check the condition of your coilpacks. I had 4 of 6 with cracks in them the last time I changed my plugs.

Well it sounds like it's relatively normal...just out of curiousity though, if it is the spark plugs, how hard is it to do them yourself? I'd assume the intake system comes off first to even get a clear shot at the motor.
Actually you reach up from the bottom. Most of the plugs are pretty easy to get to although there a couple that are tough to reach. Get yourself a stubby ratchet and it will be a breeze.
I would not do anything before I ran the current gas in the tank out and replaced with a fresh batch. Could be any of a dozen or more simple or major problem. Throw in a can of injector cleaner in the gas tank and run it hard for awhile and see if there is any response.
Good suggestion. I'm hoping that it was a bad tank of gas being how it's never happened before.
As for the injector cleaner, do they add anything benefital to the car? I've always just thought they were a waste of money.
