I didn't have time to drive all the way home after the FedEx package arrived and I just couldn't stand having the parts sitting here in my office, so I went by my mechanic's shop at lunch, borrowed my mechanic's tools and installed the bumperettes in about 3 to 5 minutes.

The finish is simply beautiful, and I would recommend coloer matched bumperettes from bumperplugs.com as the next modification for anyone with an older model 996.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oftentimes, I see people posting the questions like, "what modification should I do next?" or "What do you consider the best modification for the money?" Often, the reply is do you want more speed or just aesthetics? If the modification is just for looks, then I have to weigh in with my new BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK modification. I had heard about them and seen many glowing reviews on this site and elsewhere, but I'll be damned if it didn't take me actually getting a set to see what everyone was raving about. I was getting tired of seeing my MY'99 996 sitting next to a newer MY and wishing I had the color matched bumperettes. Also, I hated getting the white marks on the black rubber bumperettes everytime I waxed the car. So I went ahead and gave Eric at www.bumperplugs.com my old, black bumperettes and he sent me freshly painted Arctic Silver bumperettes to match my car. (BumperPlugs.com is a site sponsor, so I believe this shout out is appropriate). The bumperettes are quite simply awesome. There is nothing more satisfying than spending under $300 to make my 996 look a few years younger. I'm on the line as to whether this is the best modification regardless of price for an older 996, sort of a must have modification like the clear sidemarkers. Oh yeah, and while your getting things from bumperplugs.com, go ahead and shell out the extra few bucks for the color matched "door plugs", I did and they are worth it. Sorry, for the infomercial, but I was really impressed with the fit and finish on this product and how it truly updated my car. I didn't think it would make that big of a difference, but it really did make the car look a few years younger. Thanks Eric, you guys do good work.

POST 2Original post

Stuart - agreed, Eric's product are top quality. However, I must state that... Come on, post a couple of "before" and "after" pics.

POST 3Original post

Anyone have pics of a black 996 with the painted bumperettes? Does it make much difference on a black car?

POST 4Original post

Appreciate the comments Stuart and Tim. rcg: yes, it makes a tremendous statement, easy on the eyes, makes them blend in better and avoids the discoloration and white wax residue:

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I knew when I was typing it that someone would chime in with the "Where's the Pics" comment. I admit to having committed a cardinal sin for posting a comment about a mod on this site. I know one "must" post before and after pics. That was stupid of me. For the commission of this crime, I hereby apologize to the board and sentence myself to taking pics and posting them before the weekend. I'm sorry. I'll do better next time.

POST 6Original post

I hate looking at my raddy old rubber ones now- Nice to see the black car and get an idea of what mine will look like. Everytime I try to post a pic it says its too large and I tried to shrink it and it didnt work- I got a little peeved and gave up- any easy ideas?
