POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, after looking for a month I have found a 2000 996 black on black, aero, with 21000 miles for $43500. I just test drove it today and wow was it tight! I tested other 996s with just a few more miles that were nowhere near the handling feel of this car. The car was in excellent condition with hardly any visible wear and tear. The Carfax was the best I had ever seen on a 2nd owner. No issues and the car has not left the city it is presently in so the same dealer has maintained it throughout. I have yet to have a PPI done but plan on one ASAP. So I have a few questions: The owner states a sport exhaust but I cannot find it in the option codes. There is a 09981 and the 09991 code but do they relate to the exhaust? I have also heard that it was NOT an option in 2000. Is that correct? How can I tell if it had one installed later? Is this a fair price for this car in such a cherry condition? Will a PPI detect a potential RMS issue? Thanks for all your help and as this board has taught me so much. Here is my potential new girl...

POST 3Original post

Sport Exhaust is option XLF. If delivered from the factory, this should be on the label on the underside of the trunk hood. You can look at the exhaust cans, and if they look like this: or like this: it is Porsche Sport Exhaust. Re: "will a PPI reveal a RMS leak?" Possible.

POST 4Original post

The car looks beautiful, and has few miles - less than 4k per year, not too few. A PPI should definitely note a leaking RMS! I would negotiate the price, but if you've been looking for awhile and you're very happy you may not need the best price in the world for it to be a good value for you. Good luck! Rob

POST 6Original post

I agree with Rob - you could spend the next 6 months trying to find a car at a lower price, or you can buy the one you're obviously excited about. I'd go in and offer $39,000 for it, but go as high as $41,000 - it looks like an awsome car.

POST 7Original post

I agree...upper 30s is where I'd want to be on the car. Zoolander, you probably know that car has been for sale for a month or 2 now...he has stated he had people interested in buying but no one has pulled the trigger...probably because the car is priced a few grand over. The most I'd probably pay is $39-40K...

POST 8Original post

You're going to smile every time you get in that car. I do with mine. True you can possibly save a some money, but if they won't negotiate down, are you willing to walk away from the car you want? Smiles are worth money IMO. The question is: For you, is waiting a few months for a different car at a better price point worth missing out on P-Car smiles for those months? And will you be kicking yourself for the one that got away? -td

POST 9Original post

Yeah, a bit pricey but they would be stupid to no accept anything in the 38-40 range!

POST 10Original post

By all means... negotiate. But in the end, only you can decide what the car is worth to you. You wanted a specific car and that makes it harder. I paid $51k for my 01 C4 Cab a few months ago which was probably a bit high. But I knew EXACTLY what I wanted and it was hard to find. I don't regret paying the price one bit.

POST 11Original post

Black Aero can't go wrong! 09991 is the exclusive option code so there must be some exclusive options. If you love it DO IT you won't regret the purchase.

POST 12Original post

Nice. Personally, I don't like the 996 Aero package, unless it's on a true 996 GT3...but to each man, his own. Squeeze the trigger at $40K, and enjoy her!

POST 13Original post

to put it in perspective. i sold my 2003 with about 24k with full factory warranty and no issues for $48500.00. to be fair only options were 18" wheels and bose upgrade.......

POST 14Original post

I agree. I paid slightly less than that for a pristine, heavily optioned 2000 cab with similar mileage .... over 18 months ago. The price included a dealer PPI, and all repairs identified as necessary on the PPI.

POST 15Original post

The price is not way too high, it's a few thousand too high. Just offer him $39K and see what happens. He can only say no then at that point will you be stuck with the decision to pay more or not. What are the options on the inside of the car?

POST 16Original post

I disagree slightly with a few of the other posters. That price is a little high, but not bad. Consider the following; - You indicate that it is in "excellent condition" and "very tight". - It is what I would consider well optioned and it has the Aerokit (option codes should be listed under the front hood). Due to these two factors alone it should be worth more than the average 2000. Also consider the likelyhood of finding a similar used car any time in the near future. Porsche certainly built more 996's than 993's however, they did not by any means build a ton of them. You will not find a huge supply of used black 996's w/aerokits on the market at any one time. Good luck!!

POST 17Original post

My reaction is the same that it seems to be a little high for an 00'. It does have low miles and a factory aero package. If it was an 01', it would be more inline in the price. I would say it is a $40K car providing there are no problems, including RMS. I believe it is gong to bring more than $30's because of the low mileage and the desireability of the aerokit. PPI will find if there is a RMS or IMS issue. I wouldn't do anything before the PPI.

POST 18Original post

For what it's worth, just purchased an '01 (technics pkg, no aero) with 13k for $40k.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The trigger has been pulled. I just put a deposit down pending the result of the PPI. I really would have liked to have gotten him down to at least $42000 which I felt was the true value of the car due it's pristine condition. He was a good salesman and I didn't have the luxury of time. Here are some of the other options: Litronic Headlights Sport Exhaust installed after purchase by Porsche (sweet sounding!) Comfort Seats with heat, positral and lumbar Aluminum Instrument Dials something from the exclusive-programme? code 09991 lots of other small items but no 030 liked I had hoped. It does come with a catalytic converter...whew I was worried. Since I plan on running the One Lap with my father I will be taking it to the track from time to time. I am so anxious to get a feel for this beast as my last street/track car was a E46 M3 which I later sold to purchase a race prepared 1975 BMW 2002 . Wow, I thought I knew how to drive until I drove that 2002. I learned more in one school with that car than I did in 7 schools with the M3. I still race the 2002 but am looking forward to a great experience with my father in the One Lap. He is getting older and we have talked about this event for years. Time to do it! My first upgrade will probably be better brake pads. Do I need stainless steel brake lines?? I will also go to the ROW 030 suspension. Don't know what will be next as the budget will dictate the rest. Any budget tweaks??

POST 20Original post

good looking car! u will be happy with your purchase for a LONG time! good luck!

POST 21Original post

Why dont you get this? a bit more expensive, but it is an 02, and a C4S. Don't know if this is too cheap to be true, but worth looking at i think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...QQcmdZViewItem

POST 23Original post

I'll sell you my 2002 C2 Coupe garage queen with 10k miles on it for $45,000. It has rocker panels, sport exhaust, and switch to raise and lower the rear spoiler in the dash. Cherry! (I want a GT3).

POST 25Original post

Buddy, I have been looking for 3 months at tons of 1999's here in Southern California........hard tops with 20k to 30K for low $30's even $29k......I just yesterday bought a triple black 99 C4 Cab with 40k miles for $33k.....every option possible....flawless, with 2 minor dings that are going to cost $150 from dentless repair guy........save some money and keep looking.....worth a plane ticket cost even if you can find out of your area......just my thoughts.

POST 26Original post

It says it is a manufacturer buy back. In other words - Lemon Law. That's why it's so cheap.

POST 27Original post

is it? have you looked at the carfax? When i first looked at it, i thought it was cheap but not too cheap. The KBB for an 02 C4S, with that sort of mile, is around $47k to $48k for dealer trade in price, So if they sell it for $50k, not too out of line. Anyway, MRPC12 says this is a Lemon, so...forget this car. Keep looking.

POST 28Original post

Congrats! Hope the purchase goes well. Good luck with the OLA (One Lap of America)!

POST 29Original post

Sorry, didn't realise that you already made a decision. Congrats.

POST 30 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You guys are making me like I about to make a mistake. In my opinion I feel I will be paying about $2000 too much. I can handle that because I feel I would regret letting this car go and would not be able to find one is such good condition in proximity to where I live. I have always dreamed of owning a mean looking black 911. It is still an option for me to let it go and eat the $500 deposit.? The car will be getting the PPI tomorrow.

POST 31Original post

hmm...you posted this thread because you wanted to get some opinions on price right? well...some might have said that you should pay less than the price you posted, but i think the most important thing is to know if this is the car you want. As long as you are happy with the car, and if this is the car that you really want, go ahead. You are the one buying the car, people will give you opinions but you are the one making the decision. It seems that you really want a black 911 and you seem happy with it, so i say go ahead and dont bother with what we said. Just as long as you are happy ..

POST 32Original post

11K less miles, bigger engine, Face lift... for $3K extra that is money well spent. Not to make you feel bad but this is a great deal.

POST 34Original post

Is this the one with the rebuilt motor? If yes, how did that affect your pricing decision?

POST 35Original post

I say let it go. then after you let it go figure out how much it will cost you to find a black one for 2k less. Then when you figure out how much plane tickets, train tickets, PPIs, shipping, etc. will cost you, add your time at say $10 an hour (yes I know you make much less than $10 an hour ) , then, figure out if you would have paid too much. OR, Do the computation before you let it go, then decide if you are overpaying.

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Done deal at this point. I got the price down to $42,250. My thoughts were the same as yours Tom R. I cannot wait as I pick the car up FRI!!!! I am so looking forward to that 1.5hr drive home.
