Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Not only will I pay for shipping, now I'll have to pay to have your clothes dry cleaned after you finish rummaging through the dumpster!

The second version (shown in the second pic below) they punched out the "cap" at the opposit end of the exhaust can and ran a larger pipe from the new hole to the outlet pipe.

I'll find some used cans and get the hack done soon.

On second thought, it is worth the price of the dry cleaning just to be able to envision that scene!

If it helps, we decided to change our route so we weren't going to go through Charlotte anymore.

Well its pretty close , i think it depends on the size of tubing you use on the bypass, the ebay picture looks small to me so I dont think it would sound as good as the "real PSE" or with bigger by-pass pipes.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That's what PSE is, my friend. The OEM version just has a computer-controlled valve that opens and closes to augment/minimize the exhaust sound at certain revs (of course, there is a bypass DIY posted on Renntech).

For about $50 in parts and labor you could do it yourself. And if you didn't want to try it out on your own cans, get a set from somebody that has upgraded. Heck, I just threw mine in the dumpter yesterday since I am cleaning out the garage for my impending move this summer.
And before anybody bashes me I did offer them up for FREE recently and nobody wanted them since the shipping would have killed the deal. Local pickup is the best.
BTW....Paul, I love the new avitar!
I did this and they put it all together with mandrel bends for 114 out the door. It sounds AWSOME. I need to make a recording. Just been swamped with things.
Dell, you ARE kidding about throwing the stock cans out, right?
About two months ago, I mentioned doing this hack. Since I am leasing the car, I wanted to be able to easily revert to stock, so I wanted a back-up set of cans to complete the mod. You had mentioned that I could have yours and that I could pick them up when you moved to NC.
I thought the reason that you didn't want to ship them was because didn't want to go through the hassle of having to box them up and then take 'em to UPS for shipping. I would have paid the shipping.
I almost PM'd you last week about the cans after I saw your "garage clean out" post about the front lip & the bolts.
BTW, just to be perfectly clear about this, I am NOT blaming you! I blame myself, because I should have pursued it further when you first made the offer!
Oh crap Tim!!!! I am going to head to the dumpster I threw them in later this morning and if they are still there I will grab them out. I am so sorry about that. My mind has been racing a million miles an hour with the impending move and I got caught up in the "sell this house" line item list from our agent about cleaning out EVERYTHING.
I'll update you later this morning.
Feeling as horrible as I did I just went over to that dumpster and the dumpster was empty.....trash day was yesterday. I can't tell you how horrible I feel Tim. If anybody else offers you up their cans for free I would be happy to pick them up from them if they are on my route when I move to NC.
If it helps, we decided to change our route so we weren't going to go through Charlotte anymore. Instead we are taking I40 straight across to save time......had to cancel our "southern swing" to visit family and friends since we have a frame walk with our builder the 1st week of June that I do NOT want to miss.
Can't tell you again how sorry I am Tim. I owe you big time for this screw-up!
Oh, man, now this is going to cost me even more $$$. Not only will I pay for shipping, now I'll have to pay to have your clothes dry cleaned after you finish rummaging through the dumpster!
You are going to look just like THE DONALD in that Am Ex commercial when he dropped his debit card out of the window and it lands in a dumpster. He goes in after it and finds it. After he gets out of the dumpster, two women walk by and one woman says to the other "... and I thought he was doing so well!"
That is going to be a sight... your P-car (either the 996 or the 955) parked next to the dumpster and your legs sticking out of the top of the dumpster! On second thought, it is worth the price of the dry cleaning just to be able to envision that scene!
BTW, THANKS!
Dell I guess you posted the above reply while I was writing my last post. No problem. Like I said earlier,
I should have followed up with you sooner
! The blame falls on me, not on you! Thanks for checking. I'll find some used cans and get the hack done soon.
I think he is Tim-fused. To many of us TIM's running amok.
Other Tim, email me at twasmer@ comcast.net. I will be with clients most of the day but willget with you as soon as I can.
Tim to Tim......Out
Tim - Thanks for the offer. I will probably take you up on that offer. However, I do have a couple of questions for you (or others) about this modification. I recall that you posted a while back that you had actually cut an exhaust can open and made some modification and welded it shut again, so you obviously have tried some modifications to the stock cans. I have seen two different versions of this "hack."
One version (shown in the first pic below) is where they took a smaller pipe and ran it from the inlet pipe (coming from the cats) to outlet pipe.
The second version (shown in the second pic below) they punched out the "cap" at the opposit end of the exhaust can and ran a larger pipe from the new hole to the outlet pipe.
The third pic shows an actual 996 later model PSE. It shows the larger pipe from the "cap" to the outlet pipe, like in pic #2.
Now my questions are:
Which mod did you do on yours?
Have you heard the difference, if any, between these two versions?
Any additional comments/opinions would be most appreciated!
I just sent you an email.
Maybe we need to go to "Red Tim" and "Blue Tim" for clarification. I know that your current P-car is grey but the "Red Tim" referrs to your current avatar.
Blue Tim to Red Tim... over and out!
Tim W. (
) Thanks for the clarification on which mod version you did to your exhaust cans. That is the version that I planned on doing when I got an extra set of exhaust cans. BTW, I just sent you a PM.
Thanks again!
