I replaced my OEM battery with the Optima Red Top 34R, I had to fashion a hard plastic plate that I bolted to the bottom of the battery and it fits perfectly within the battery compartment.

My Shop tested my battery 3 weeks ago when they did the 30K on my 02, and said that it failed a load test.

The short version is that the Porsche battery is very expensive and the that gel batteries from Optima do not fit on the hold down plate, however, some people have used the very short wires to essentially secure them.

My Shop tested my battery 3 weeks ago when they did the 30K on my 02, and said that it failed a load test. They charged it overnight and said it was holding the charge so I should take a chance. It is turning over but there seems to be a slight hesitation. I should probably replace. That leaves me with 2 questions: 1- What is the best replacement battery and what should I stay away from? 2- I do not have the radio code. Is there away that I can replace the battery without tripping the code? Wishfull thinking I am sure but none the less someone may have a way around it. Thanks!

If you do a search there all kinds of battery threads. The short version is that the Porsche battery is very expensive and the that gel batteries from Optima do not fit on the hold down plate, however, some people have used the very short wires to essentially secure them. Duralast makes a battery that fits and is lighter than the OEM battery. As for the radio code...I think if you do a search someone has had success by utilizing a trickle charger in the cigarette lighter (but I could be wrong on that).

I replaced my OEM battery with the Optima Red Top 34R, I had to fashion a hard plastic plate that I bolted to the bottom of the battery and it fits perfectly within the battery compartment. There is a DIY instruction for the battery base plate on Renntech. The batter cost me about $115 and the base plate cost about $5 plus one hour of labor. I did not have to change the OEM battery cables.
