Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 2Original post

R134a. R12 was phased-out in the early/mid 90s. There should be a label under the frunk hood showing the refrigerant spec, oil type, and capacity.

Thanks!

POST 4Original post

You should really use a professional style refer gauge kit ,,,, the one on the cans is not enough.. R134 is hyper sensitive to pressure in the expansion valve and german cars in general are way more sensitive especially ones with long pipe runs... the tolerances are a couple ounces/lbs pressure..

+1 Modern cars a really moody about the proper refrigerant amount. A little high or low and it wont be cold. Also the system will need to be put under a vacuum for 45 mins prior to charging. Proper Evac and Recharge at a shop should be under $200. And they will check it for leaks before charging it. At least thsy should.

+1 already have this planned, Porsche dealer will work on it. One question, does the receiver/dryer have to be replaced?

Not required. But is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

POST 8Original post

If you don't do the dryer the odds you'll toast the compressor go way way up,, you may not need a full service, just a top off and add some seal conditioner/lube at the same time.. but its a bandaid.. After all these cars are getting closer to being called vintage.. LOL
