I use Techron often and that is certainly good advice.

Is is much easier to replace the entire unit then it it is to swap assembled parts around.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

As suggested by fellow Rennlisters, I did two treatments of Techron, and it eliminated the problem.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its driving me nuts. I do not want to start buying parts only to be unsuccessful. Had anyone experienced this? I bought a new gas cap hoping the rubber seal went bad. It is cracking. Im hoping when I fill it that may clear it. I dont know how much fuel is in there because the needle stays at low fuel and flashes. I cant find much on this either. No check engine light either.

POST 2Original post

Blinking may indicate a problem with the fuel level sender. The light should not blink when fuel is low; it should only illuminate.

POST 3Original post

I think we tried to address this before - sounds like it's not been resolved. Unfortunately you may have to do what the last sentence suggests here: If the level gauge warning light flashes there has been a system fault. Additionally, a warning is displayed in the onboard computer. There will then be no reserve warning. To remedy the fault, go to an authorized Porsche dealer.

POST 4Original post

Most likely your sending unit has failed, mine did this when it was 4 years old, the fuel pump is in the same area in the gas tank, you should consider replacing both "while you are in there", as many fuel pumps are failing these days too.

POST 5Original post

I had a related issue on my Cayenne, which was a "fuel gauge sensor fault" (see thread in Cayenne section). As suggested by fellow Rennlisters, I did two treatments of Techron, and it eliminated the problem. For how long, who knows, but at a minimum it deferred a repair bill. Cheap to try, and it may work. Don't know if there was buildup or corrosion on the float or sensor, but something was improved. Worth a try. Follow directions closely (1/2 tank of fuel per application), and maybe try two treatments.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I use Techron often and that is certainly good advice. Looks like I’m going to have to roll up my sleeves and dig in. Would you guys consider this a diy job. I do have some experience so I am not new to then wrench I have just never done this job. The thing that blows my mind is that my car purrs like a kitten. This is the reason I wasn’t thinking fuel pump. Something to do with the fuel level makes sense. So replacing the fuel pump is a good idea while I am in there. My mechanic has a Snap on unit that could probably pick this up. I will visit him.

POST 7Original post

Fuel pump assemblies are easy to replace and the sending unit is part of the pump assembly but has no effect on the performance of the pump. It just tells the gauge how much fuel u have. Is is much easier to replace the entire unit then it it is to swap assembled parts around. Bring up a youtube video and get to work.

POST 8Original post

I had this problem on one of my other cars. The fuel level apparatus was malfunctioning. The fuel pump worked just fine, but the little float in the level assembly has deteriorated down to nothing.
