This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car! Hello all, new to the forum, and new to Porsche ownership so please bear with me as I'm probably gonna make a mistake or two. I purchased my new to me 2002 996TT in August and really haven't had a lot of chances to drive it as I predominantly work out of town. I just installed a lift in my garage as I plan to store the car for winter. Out of curiosity I lifted the vehicle to inspect what I thought was a rather loud noise. It is not noticable on start up, only after the engine has warmed up. I took a video on my Samsung phone, but it is recorded as a .mp4 file - which appears to not be a valid attachment type for this website. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to post the video? Thanks in advance, trailuser

That car is beautiful. Read through this thread and the PDF that are attached to it. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...ine-noise.html

POST 3Original post

Beautiful. You were right about making some mistakes, you should post this to the 996 turbo forum.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow thank you that is awesome. I appreciate your help. Gonna take it for a nice fall drive today. Feel better the noise is normal. It has 87000 kilometers on it and I sure love it. A childhood dream come true for me. Makes for a crowded garage though!

Youtube or Vimeo, you'll need an account for either, but if you happen to already have a Gmail account you already have a Youtube account so that would be convenient. Upload the .mp4 to your YT or Vimeo account and then copy/paste the link of the video here. If you need help with this PM me.

Actually that was much easier than I thought so here is a link.... You Tube T

Yea, that is the "Mezger" noise. It will never be solved, if it did, Porsche would have to repair all 996 997 Turbo's and GT3 engines built, so consider it "normal". NOTE : many much worse that yours !!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well that makes my day. Thank you so much! Had an epic drive here today, weather is just about to make a turn for the worse, I have insurance and registration till the 23rd of October, hope to get it out for at least a few more drives before I park it for the winter. Thanks again everyone for your help, makes me feel so much better. T

OP, Such a gorgeous car! Don’t bother putting a cover on it, since you’ll be spending as much time as possible fiddling around with it when you’re home. Have you already done a little Farmer’s Almanac-style forecasting when the temp will be warm enough for the tires next spring?

POST 13Original post

Hm, is that a WRX I see under the 996 to the left? 996, beautiful color! Drive it and enjoy the many smiles together!

Close, it's a 2010 Subaru Legacy which I've had the pleasure of owning since new. It's been a flawless car, an ideal winter machine!

Fantastic looking car, welcome to our 996 group. You will find this forum helpful, entertaining and sometimes humorous. You have a turbo, so you won't get the nervous gitters when you read negative posts about M96s. This forum has helped me a lot in my six years of ownership. BTW, do you have a sill umbrella

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you mean passenger side door sill, why yes I do have an umbrella stored there! 😉

POST 19Original post

Today my Carrera is green with envy. Congrats, man. I hope she treats you well and you ride on in great health.
