my convertible top has always worked a little hard going up , pausing occasionally through the up cycle then resuming. hydraulic pump always a bit loud as if low on fluid. Recently had a specialist put fluid in pump. Since then, convertible top will unlatch and open about 2 inches then stop. can not open top any further. shows that a fault occurs each time and must be reset by mechanic. never had this problem until replaced hydraulic fluid. The same day he replaced fluid he also replaced drivers side door window motor. he believes that adding fluid made my pump go out. Any suggestions?

Try a different mechanic...perhaps a dealer who has people factory trained in this matter.

When it stops, can you still hear the motor? if you give the top a little pressure upward, does it help move along and continue to open? I recently added fluid and it really is just open the fill bolt and fill fluid into the reservoir. nothing mechanical involved unless in the process of doing so, the specialist broke something. Does the clamshell open to position and the 2 little wings fold correctly? Does the window roll down? Maybe try to reset window position since the window motor was replaced too?

I'm with John. If adding fluid made your pump go out, either it didn't need fluid, he added the wrong fluid, or he did it wrong. Either way, it's likely a more skilled mechanic would be better help to you than the forums. Best of luck with the issue.
