Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Yip, also done, I actually had it at a main dealer for service recently but they tested it and said it was the control unit but I bought one and stuck it on and no change, I suspect that they siad that because it's not a stock part and couldn;t fix it immediately so that was a good excuse to not investigate further.
Leading evidence: 'control unit' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'control unit' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace control unit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Have tried the bulb and that's fine, have tried replacing the control unit and that's not the problem (or at least doesn;t solve it), any ideas?

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.
Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
Rennlist: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 1 adjusted by outcome qualification.
2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Hi all,
have a 2003 996 C4S. One of the Xenmons is not working (the low and high lights ettings for the same lamp do work, just the driving Xenon light that's the problem). Have tried the bulb and that's fine, have tried replacing the control unit and that's not the problem (or at least doesn;t solve it), any ideas? I'm suspecting this is something small and stupid (expecting or praying, not sure
), has anyone had the problem themselves and how did you solve it?
BTW, reason I am not at the main dealer right now is I live in Ireland and the only main dealer is 160 miles away so it's the last option to go to them for this.
thanks in advance
cheers

Try your battery. It might not be providing enough power. The HID's require 1000 volts to start up and if the car battery doesn't have enough juice it won't fire one or both up. Are you still under any kind of warranty?
thanks but battery is very new and apparently (told to me by a Porsche mechanic) the 996's require a minimum of 12V to start a certain motor that is involved when starting the car so if it starst, you know you have an absolute minimum of 12v. Actually that's why 911's dont; start after about 5 days of non use, the voltage drops below 12 and apparently this motor doesn;t start up so the next phase of ignition can;t happen. So i guess the battery probably isn;t it but thanks, will see what else comes up. A real pain in the butt though, you don;t see much when you switch down to the low lights I can tell you!
cheers

So now I also have a spare control unit
yeah, good point thanks. I did swap the bulb but not the control unit across and it didn't work but I guess I am on a procvess of elimination now. I thought when new control unit didn;t work that rules it out but I guess it's possible that th enew one could be faulty also so if I switch across the one that is definitely working, it will rule those out anyway. Thanks for that. By the way, if I figure this out I will post the answer in case anyone else encounters it.
ciao
