Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have not been on the board for a while. A lot of changes going on. Short of it is that I am with out a P-Car for the first time in a while...for the long read below. Where to start. Back in August I had a fan faliure light come on. Pulled over and I noticed that my coolant level was just a little low. Started the car up and everything was fine. To be on the safe side I had it checked. A Local Indy shop told me I had a leaking water pump. I had the pump replaced, aftermarket warranty, no problems. On the way home the light came on again. Took it back to the shop and they say they can't find anything wrong. I tell them to take it out on the road, they do and I get a phone call, we have a problem!!! What I say, they tell me on the drive massive amounts of smoke poured out of both exhausts. Now the days turn into weeks. I find out that a Freeze plug blew and coolant went through the engine and mixed with oil. It finally gets fixed after 4 weeks in the shop. Warranty company, Easy Care, not so good this time. They made me pay over $800 in work that they should have covered...they did pick up the additional $6K though. I got so ticked off at the situation that I decided to sell my car so I told the shop to just put on the old exhuast and I would sell my Tubi or put it on my replacement. I paid $2K for the exhaust and it has less than 500 miles on it. Wouldn't you know that the Indy shop, Curry's, broke one of the rings on the end of one of the exhuasts. They tried to sneak it past me too. I have now been witing for 3-4 weeks from Champion, HBL, and or Tubi to supply the ring so that I can get this taken care of. Then things really took a change. I decided to stop working for a while and raise my kids...that definatley meant selling the 996 since I would no longer have a company car. I got raked over the coals on a trade on a Jeep, had to do it though. I have been searching for a replacement; however, it does not look like a 996 will be in my garage for a while. I might get back into a 944 or 968 in time for autocross seaon. I have a set of new mats, aluma look center trim, and a Tubi exhaust that I'll post for sale once I ever get the ring back on. I really have enjoyed the posts on this board and I will continue to watch and hope to post pics of a new 996 in a year or so, untill then my search for an autocross car for next year continues.

POST 2Original post

Jim, sorry to hear your story. i know you said you were contemplating this back at the last auto cross. i guess you never really got to try out those new tires. i hope to see you out there in something new next year. or old for that matter.

POST 3Original post

At least you have your priorities straight! Kudos for your courage! I am sure great things await your future with that great attitude. All the best!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Fast 40th. Scott, I did get to try those Yoko AD07s at Porschefest and all I can say is wow! They have a lot of grip and response. Even got them out on a rainy day and they held well there as well. I'll have a replacement for next year but it does not look like we will be duking it out as I will be in a different class.

POST 5Original post

Jim, i just re- aquired my 88 911 coupe a month ago with the intention of turning into an auto cross / De car. the problem i am having is i now think it is in too nice to do just that. what are you thinking of getting for next year ?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am all over the place. The problem is this. I am thinking of a 968; however, a few grand more gets me into a Carrera or an SC then a few grand more gets me into a Boxster, then a few grand more gets me into an early 996...where does it stop? I do see myself in a 944 or 968 probably.
