Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

While you're in there, I would also update the intermediate shaft flange seal and use the new micro-encapsulated case bolts.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Well I am new to Porsche, but its not gonna take long to learn these cars inside and out!
I bought all the necessary parts(including the RMS Special tool!) to do the following:
RMS and associated items
Spark Plugs
Belt
Oil Filter
Fuel Filter
Clutch
Pollen/Cabin Filter
Suncoast Motorsports Short Shift Kit
Here are some pics of the parts and the tool. You can see how the tool is made inorder to give the proper recess of the seal...An expensive tool but hopefully its the only time i have to use it...If not, then at least i have it! If anyone would want to rent the tool I would be more then happy to work that out!
Im starting Friday, i will update with how it goes!
-Keith
The clutch kit was around $430 and the RMS tool you can find for around $230
NAH!! I will put it up on the lift...Wont take too long. Im figuring around 5hours for the clutch and RMS...And a few hours for the other things. One Saturday should be enough!

I have been a DIYer all my life. I would never be able to afford a nice car if I paid dealer prices on parts and labor!!
I had a 95 m3 before this car and I built my own turbo kit to push over 700hp! I still think to this day it is the highest HP BMW in the USA not done by a tuner...
To each his own
Let me make this suggestion then. I do not see the clutch release lever in the picture of your parts. Make sure you replace it and associated parts as it has been redesigned since the orginal. There is a TSB issued for this lever to correct noise in the bellhousing, but in addition to causing noise, it negatively effects the release of the cluth. The new design is much better. Total cost of parts and grease is less than $70.
The original designed lever will get hung up on high powered clutch releases and cause disc slippage.

If you are able to do it yourself...great...I wish I could and had to patience!! I just wanna ride!!
Goodluck this weekend...and your right if you know what you are doing.....it's easy! and saves you a bundle!!
Also, exercise extreme care and follow the instructions to the letter when installing the new style RMS. These can easily get rolled or not seat properly when installing, necessitating doing the whole thing over. While you're in there, I would also update the intermediate shaft flange seal and use the new micro-encapsulated case bolts. Any parts guy with a tiny bit of knowledge should know these aprt numbers off the top of their head.
Cheers
Maybe. My comment was regarding your 996 bretheren, and the apparent lack of doing interesting jobs on the car at home. 996s have been moded to h igh heaven on rennlist, but usually by tuners. You don't see people saying "Boy, I need to get in that engine and replace xxx," or "I think I will replace my shocks this weekend,".
I will definitely be taking pictures and documenting the ordel...
Today i ordered all the parts to update the clutch lever like 1999Porsch911 had suggested. Suncoast had all but 1 part, which i paid to be overnighted...Hopefully it gets here by friday or i have to wait another week
I will be carefull. I have built motors by hand before, so it should be no big deal with the RMS tool(supposedly fool proof).
I am updating the IMS. You can see in the pictures the flange(in the green bag) and the micro-encapsulated bolts are there too!
