This is not a probability of success.

BTW, I'm not talking about simpler things like oil changes, minor upgrades, etc...

My only complaint is that the workshop manual I've been using is occasionally wrong about how things go together (changes over the years).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everybody. I've been a bit of a lurker for a while, and have finally gotten down to considering picking up a '99 Porsche 996 C2 within the next week. I'm originally coming from the BMW Z3/M-roadster crowd.
One concern that I have with the car is the maintenance DIY factor... I know that the P car is the next step up from the bimmer in the maintenance department. With the BMW, I had absolutely no fear of turning my own wrenches and getting arms deep in every area of the car. I also have my toy 1967 Chevelle that I've torn down, rebuilt, torn down, and rebuilt myself, so I'm not afraid of getting dirty and scraping knuckles.
However, the Porsche is packaged quite differently from these cars, and that can lend its own set of frustrations- has anyone here been a DIY-er in regards to the upkeep and maintenance of your car? And if so, what have your experiences been?
Thank you so much!
-Matt
Tighter package with less room to work, but an engine is an engine.....No problems from my end on DIY. My only complaint is that the workshop manual I've been using is occasionally wrong about how things go together (changes over the years).
BTW, I'm not talking about simpler things like oil changes, minor upgrades, etc... I'm talking about clutches, suspension, etc... any valve adjustment needed onthese cars? How prolific is the RMS issue?
I think it is easier then my old bmw (850ci) which I had to fix myself quite a bit because no one would touch it. BMW has over the years really amp'd up the little gadgets in the cars like electronic suspension and seats with 18 different adjustments which are the biggest pain in the buttt to fix. SO far what little work I have done on the 996 is similiar to just about every other sports car just with less wiggle room for tools.
