I had a 1998 Boxster before my '04 Cab C4, one desperate warm Febuary day I could'nt find anyone to help take off the top so I used my head, If you loosen all the latches and set the top off you can balance the top from the inside of the car and lift it off balancing the top with your head and hands.

how heavy are the 996 tops? my boxster S top was so light it was a joke, two people could easily lift it, one could if it wasnt so bulky!

I recommend putting it down in the grass to keep from scratching. I was desperate and I would never consider doing with my 996 as it is too heavy.

The top for my C4S is about 75# I believe. Definitely two person operation.
