Barn, Suncoast sold me blank leather trimmed rosettes to fill the shoulder seatbelt receptacles if you want to remove the rear belts.

I mainly use when going to AX, though it's always in the car with tools, compressor, etc...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been wanting to remove the rear seats and add a shelf with storage. Much like the 964/993 cars with the rear seat delete option have (picture below). I can't seem to find anything like this for the 996, so I'm assuming it doesn't exist. Am I wrong?
Before anyone suggests it, I'm not building one out of plywood, I don't want to add that kind of weight to my car.
If you put the seats down, don't you have two rows of shelves, including the seats themselves?
Not being wise, it's how my back area works. The seats are never up.
rear seat delete 5 lbs
lightweight bucket seats 40 lbs
lightweight exhaust 25-45 lbs
rear window plexiglass 10 lbs
lightweight battery 20 lbs
= approximately 3.37% weight reduction = equivalent to approximately +10rwhp*
*assuming 2960lb C2, 270rwhp 3.6L
Admission: I know this isn't strictly a weight reduction thread but I gotta admit the concept is intriguing... that Carrera Lightweight R (CLR) build has my noggin trying to figger out ways to shed modest weight where possible
The main reason I want this is for the compartmentalized storage space (I won't get that with just the seats down). My car doesn't have a glove box, and there are some items I like to keep in my car that I don't want just floating around the frunk.
I think you're right about that, it seems to be all I can find.
lol!
Interesting, and I'm not even interested in the weight savings (I just don't want to add weight with a plywood solution).
Nope, no shelf storage add on available. You can remove the seats, then attach a bungee net holder to the seat/seatbelt mounts if you don't want the stuff floating around. In reality, the footwell for the rear is fairly snug, should hold small duffel bags in place. That's what I did.
A small duffle bag isn't a bad idea! I just don't like things visible in my car. I like to keep it very clean! A permanent bag in the footwell is clutter (to me), but that might be the solution I have to go with.
I picked up a Rubbermaid bin from Home Depot. Fits perfect and has a removable organizer that goes under the lid. I mainly use when going to AX, though it's always in the car with tools, compressor, etc...
Upgrade to a 996.2 - comes with a glove box
Jokes aside I removed my rear seats because I don't want anyone in the back and not having seats is a great excuse...
In saying that its now annoying that I dont have the shelf that lying the seats flat created. In two minds about putting them back in.
I also find that when the seats are down (shelf mode), it creates a nice little out of sight space between the shelf and the seat. I commonly use this as semi-hidden storage space.
Barn, Suncoast sold me blank leather trimmed rosettes to fill the shoulder seatbelt receptacles if you want to remove the rear belts. They're pricey little buggers, $80 a pair. I wonder if they sell beige to match your interior.
Thanks! Looks like that is a GT3 specific part, which makes sense. They are now ~$125 each... Maybe I don't need it so badly. I think I can live with the bits that I have if/when I finally get around to pulling out the belts.
$125 each....? nice Porsche tax... Aside from wanting a finished factory look the rosettes helped reduce interior road/engine noise that emanated through the pillars once I removed the belts. If you keep the belts you wont have that problem.
I have GT2/3 carpet in the rear on my Turbo. It's the same as the standard carpet except it doesn't have the cut outs for the mounting hardware for the seats and seat belts. Also, I believe it has less padding under it for weight savings.
