Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't figure out where the water that collects in the rear seat footwell behind the driver's seat of by 996 Coupe is coming from. I know there are many posts about the various ways rainwater can get into the 996 cabin, and by now I've probably read most of them! For reference, t his diagram of the drains in the Coupe is a useful starting point. Given how common this kind of issue seems to be though, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would benefit from a step-by-step diagnostic procedure to identify likely leak sources. Anyway, I'm still stumped. Here is what I have done so far: Q) Is it the sunroof drains? A) Look at headliner and the area around the sunroof in particular. Observed no wet spots, either visual or by touch. Open sunroof and pour water into rails. Observed water drain from bottom of car as expected. Investigate area around fuse panel in driver's footwell; also dry. Conclusion: No. Q) Is it the a drain in the cowl/frunk area? A) Look at carpet in driver's footwell on the front (firewall) side. Dry, although further back the carpet starts to feel humid closer to the rear seat footwell behind the seat. Pour water down the cowl area below the windshield, water drains out below the car as expected. No noticable change in the driver's footwell. (Inspect drains for presence of leaves or other debris, finding none.) Conclusion: No. Q) Is it a door or window seal? A) Inspect area around doors and windows: no evidence of moisture. Pour water along side of car, inspect again. No difference. To be clear, this is the area I am referring to where the water collects -- just in front of the driver's side rear seat. What am I missing? Driver's side rear footwell
