Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All - picked up a 996 C4S a few months back and have been enjoying the car every moment I can. With summer officially over I figured it be a good time to start thinking about winter plans for the car. Being in the NE I plan to store the car in a climate controlled garage once the weather turns and the streets are covered in salt. Can anyone suggest what I should do to the car before putting away?
Below is a picture of my car from this past weekend. Bought the car in June and put approximately 2k miles on her. I just love that rear!
In addition to above: Wash and dry. Vacuum out interior. Change oil and filter. I use moth ***** in frunk and engine compartment for mice plus traps in garage. Air up tires to near max on sidewalls. Once per week walk through garage and pat the front fender. Stare at calendar daily to determine how close Spring is getting.
Yeah, well you must have better winter drivers in Mich. than we do out here. People around here go completely brain dead every time it snows or gets icy. I trust myself and the car with proper tires but not all these idiots. Not worth it to me. I've got an all wheel drive Rav4 to do winter battle.
Maybe. We have plenty of brain dead drivers no matter the weather.
I'll be getting my winter tires soon. But I doubt I will do a whole lot of driving (of
Speedy
) when the snow and ice get serious. Not so much for the slipping and sliding, which I love, but for the salt.
My "new" rally beater will get the call to duty.
Your car looks great.
There are several threads on this topic if you search. However, here's what I've done for many years with all my cars that I store for the winter:
- start with a clean, dry car
- fresh oil/filter change (so it's ready to go in the Spring - generally best to store a car with fresh oil & the oil won't degrade over the winter)
- full tank of gas with Stabil added
- connect a battery tender
- pump tires up to 50 psi
- put some carpet remnants under the tires (or tire cradles if you want to spend the $ for them). Tires might get a little flat-spotted if stored for several months, but they'll get round again after a few miles in warm weather.
- cover the car
** DO NOT start the car periodically. Starting the car and just letting it run for a while only puts condensation in the engine and
exhaust system
, (i.e. corrosion.)
I have had my car for over 19 years now and every year I follow the same process to prepare it for winter. I wash it, then wax it, then put on the winter wheels and tires and get in it and drive it!
i have been driving a Porsche for 46 years now and every one has been driven year round. Boy the 928’s were a bit challenging but what the hell.
