But the main reason it looks so good is because LN ultrasonically cleaned the cases for Nickies.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been meaning to pick up a yoke to make it easier to put the M96 on the engine stand. The universal one works, but the engine specific one works so much more elegantly (retaining access to the RMS, IMSB, and holds from the case half that stays in place while splitting cases. I had one for my air cooled 911, and it was awesome. Anyone have the M96 version collecting dust that you'd be willing to part with? If so, please PM me.

POST 2Original post

How soon would you need one? I just transferred to the hydraulic table, but would be a few months before I would know the engine wouldn't need to come back out for some reason. (The thought haunts me...)

POST 3Original post

Doug, did you replace your vacuum canister, or did you just forget about reinstalling it and leave it on the bench? Just kidding...(I hope)

Hi Doug, I'm flexible for the right price. I have an M96 on the stand now with the generic engine stand adapter and trying to split the cases reminded me why having the proper tool would be nice. The longer answer is that I don't need it in a hurry. I'm basically a tool junkie and just want one to have it. That engine sure looks good. IMS Solution too. Nice! Is that hose supposed to thread through the engine lift point?

POST 5Original post

Doug Has that engine ever seen rain of snow? It looks new. I live in the Chicago area so over the 19 years I have had my car it has seen lots of rain, snow and road salt. 10 years ago when I had my intermix and had the engine out I posted some pictures here and one guys asked me if the engine was the anchor from the Titanic! I have had the engine out a few other times over the last 10 years including this summer and let’s just say it is even worse. And there really isn’t much you can do for it short of disassembling the even and having it cleaned, and even that will not make it look like yours does.

Is that line to the cooler supposed to go through that bracket? I'd be concerned with it chaffing without a grommet over time? I don't remember if mine went through it when I pulled my motor. I first thought it was a hanger of some sort but it looked to flimsy to me.

POST 8Original post

I just bought a yoke from VWalley off of ebay for $300 shipped to my house (shipping was $70). I should get it next week and give my opinion on build quality. They seem to have good reviews.

Purposely left off. ROW bin will be flashed to DME in a month or so. i'm moving the vacuum canister, lines and electrical switches to the area near the driver side motor mount. SAI orificies have been blocked off with plates. Sending you a PM. If you can wait, then yes, I'll make you a great deal. I doubt I'll rebuild another. Thanks! It's a rebuild with LN Nickies (3.8L with all the upgraded components LN has to offer). Nope, that's an oversight. Thank you for pointing it out! I must have been tired (after a year of re-assembly) that night. Hey Doug. No, it hasn't see much snow, rain or salt. But the main reason it looks so good is because LN ultrasonically cleaned the cases for Nickies. The heads were worked over by Len @ Hoffman. I purchased a small ultrasonic cleaner for other parts, such as the oil scavenge pumps, etc. Also every damn part of this engine is new, down to bolts. Crazy the amount of money I've spent over the last few years (including the Knowledge Group engine building class), but I just refuse to look at the invoices. Spreading out the purchases over time really helps with that. Yep, good call. See above. Lots of late nights.

POST 12Original post

Hey, I’d be up for a dusty yoke too. Anybody got 3 of them they want to get rid of for little money? Ha!

POST 13Original post

Mine arrived from VW Alley. Looks sturdy and well built (I'm travelling so I can't post pictures right now). Mounted my motor to it and all seems well in case you guys can't find a used one (I looked for a while and couldn't). I believe it was about $240 plus shipping.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Seems like these are in high demand, maybe someone can work out a group buy...

I might just go this route too.

Bill I know you found a substitute but per your original question, I had the opportunity to line the water-cooled yoke and air-cooled yoke up together and the holes are in different places. Would it still work? I have no idea - I paid 2x for the water-cooled unit after I saw the difference. I wish I had seen your e-bay model, but c'est la vie.
