Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. This is not a probability of success.

I would recommend the Bilstein B4 struts and shocks if you're looking to stay with a stock suspension setup.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just bought mine for my '99 996 from Summit Racing last week.
They are B4s for $265ea for fronts and $239ea for the rears.
They had a coupon at the time of $50 off a purchase of $500 and free shipping. I bought each pair separately to qualify, plus a couple quarts of oil to make it to the $500 threshold for the rears.
So, I paid $908 for the four.......
I would recommend the Bilstein B4 struts and shocks if you're looking to stay with a stock suspension setup. If you would like to PM your VIN I would be happy to look up the correct ones for your exact application.
Take a look at Koni Special Actives, supposed to ride smother and handle better than Bilsteins, and costs less. If you get them please report your findings.
Usually the shocks show signs of wear by leakage. My right front blew out all the oil, so I changed them all. That being said, if your tires are over 5 years old they are basically hard rubber. New tires can make a vast difference in ride.
The handling symptoms I was experiencing is hard to describe, but here goes: Felt like the car wanted to "wiggle" when at 75 and hitting some minor bumps in the road. With the new shocks, tracks like a rail!
