So my advice would be to take the bulb out of the warning light, which is a pain in the *** to do, or ignore it and check the pads every year or so.

Even used a electrical meter to check sensor but could not find the problem and probably drove the car for a year with the light on.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey everyone, I'm just baffled that I can't figure this out.. I read all the previous posts and there's nothing that helped me so far. I have a 99/996 and I bought it with the sensor light on in January of this year. Pads look new/good life left and I changed all the sensors and the dash light is still on. Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

I can share what happened with my car several years ago. I have owned the car for 19 years now, bought the when it was about 8 months old. During that time I have replaced the pads and sensors several times, but never worn through a sensor to set off the warning light. Then one day the light came on. I checked all the sensors, four sensors with 8 point of contact and all appeared fine though I did replace a few. Even used a electrical meter to check sensor but could not find the problem and probably drove the car for a year with the light on. my car is a cab and one day I had the compartment liner for the top storage area out, I forget what I was doing, but noticed on one of the large bundles of wires in the wiring harness(s) some charring on a label on the bundle so I started to unwrap the bundle and found some wires that were partially melted.so I started to trace out the bundle to find the cause. Suffice it to say that many hours later, with half the interior out of the car I found the problem where several brown ground wires in gauges 12, 14, 16, etc. we’re all connect into one 18 gauge wire that then went to a ground point on the body. Why Porsche would have several thicker gauge wires merging with one thinner gauge wire is beyond me! I replaced the thin gauge wire from the merge point to the chassis point, the light was out and it has never returned. However after I had the harness rewarded, the interior back in etc. I was probably 12+ hours into the project. At a dealer with today’s rates that would be thousand of dollars. So my advice would be to take the bulb out of the warning light, which is a pain in the *** to do, or ignore it and check the pads every year or so. IMHO!

POST 3Original post

No alert before brake job. Replaced old working sensors with new ones and alert came on. Found right rear sensor not fully seated; alert extinguished and stayed off. So an open on any of the wires will cause the light to be turned on. If fully seating connectors doesn't solve your issue, at the end of the service manual are wire diagrams and I would use a multimeter to troubleshoot and find cause as I hope to never unscrew a lamp to disable a fault.
