I want to keep the car to use when I am in the US, and for my fiance to drive at other times.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
My car is titled in my name. I will not be using it and want to have it registered in my fiancee's name. Is this possible? How do I do it? I am in DC. Main reason is that I am not in DC anymore and there are bureaucratic hassles to getting around it.
Can anyone comment on the following options, or suggest an alternative:
1. Car title WINOVIN, Registration FIANCEE
2. Car title WINOVIN/FIANCEE, Registration FIANCEE
3. Car title FIANCEE, Registration FIANCEE
My concern is around the imposition of sales tax with adding FIANCEE to title or changing it to her name.
If these fail, how do leasing companies do it? I assume they keep the title - is the car registred in the leaseholder's name? If so, can I lease the car to my FIANCEE?
Thanks!
There is no point in transferring the ownership to your Fiancee if you are not going to be driving it. If you want to let her drive it, then that is fine, just keep it registered in your name. Adding her name to the title indicates a transfer of ownership, meaning tax implications. If you do want her to drive it, then just leave it registered in your name and add her name to your auto insurance. If nobody is going to drive it, just reduce your insurance coverage - keep comprehensive only, and register it as an off road use only vehicle or whatever the cheapest registration category that is offered for a car that is not driven on the road. A lease is just a loan for depreciation. Unless you are a bank and you expect your fiancee to pay you back, a lease is not an option.
Well, the crux is that because I left the US and am only there periodically, I cannot renew my DC drivers licence, without which I cannot register the car. I want to keep the car to use when I am in the US, and for my fiance to drive at other times.
Hence, I have to find some way I can register the car, but not in my name.
I have never leased, but in reviewing various info, I had the impression that in a lease, the finance co. retains title, but the car is registered in the user's name. Is this correct? That's why I thought my fiancee could lease it (assuming I did a proper contract - at VERY favorable terms) for say 1 year, and so my girlfriend could register it.
Any creative solutions?
I don't know how it is in DC, but in Illinois, you can transfer title to a family member without paying tax. Well, only $15.00 fee. Brother, sister, mom or dad, son, daughter. You also do not need a driver's license to register a car.
Yes, you can register the car in your fiancee's name as long as the insurance is in her name.On the registration application there is a section were the owner(you) will have to complete if you are not the registrant and she will complete the registration section. The title will remain in your name. Of course she will have to provide proof of ownership ie your name and dob....hope this help
