Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In most other FI set-ups, there's a way to get out of a flooded engine situation by either completely depressing the gas pedal or pushing it slightly while starting the engine.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My P-car (2000 C2 6sp, 53K) sat outside most of the weekend in temps between 25-45F without being driven other than to be relocated to the other side of the driveway for a wash late Saturday afternoon. Late Sunday I got in to start it to move itand pushed in the clutch, turned the key and it fired but I let the clutch up too far and it died. I went to start it again and wouldn't fire at all but the starter was doing something. Had to have my daughter look at the belt to see if it was turning over since it felt like an engine being turned over with the plugs out (no compression). It was turning over just fine. I kept turning it over with no success. I then put the gas to the floor and it fired a little so I then took my foot off the gas completely and it finally fired. Lots of blue smoke and after a couple of blips on the throttle I took it for good spin and it seems to be ok. My guess is given the temp it was really pushing in the gas but when I let the clutch up it got too much fuel and flooded. Is that possible? Thanks for any insight. --Dale

POST 2Original post

In port fuel injected engines, many times, when you start the car cold and immediatly shut it off (within 5 -30 seconds) you can get a flooded condition. This is not unique to Porsche, but all port injected engines. Letting your engine sit for several minutes (sometimes as much as an hour) should allow it to start right up again.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In most other FI set-ups, there's a way to get out of a flooded engine situation by either completely depressing the gas pedal or pushing it slightly while starting the engine. Is there a recommeded way for the 996 short of the 'let it sit for 15 minutes' method? --Dale
