In Texas, when I did what you are trying to do there is a place on the title transfer that you check where you can pay a $15 gift fee and thus pay NO tax since technically there is no money changing hands.

Hi, If I am not using my 996 for a period of time and have it stored, can I get it insured for theft/damage if it is NOT driven? If so, which companies do this? Thanks

Of course you can, just let you insurance carrier know that as well so you are only paying the comp coverage for theft/etc. Also, you just will need to contact the DMV regarding your registration. I had to sign an affidavit that the car was NEVER driven and only in storage in order to re-register the car when it become street going again. If you are only storing it for the winter then there is NO reason why the car isn't registered.

No, I have a separate thread regarding registering in my fiancee's name - basically, I went overseas and am only in the US periodically. Since I no longer can hold a US driver's licence, I cannot reregister the car - a DC licence is required. I am trying to find a way to register the car creatively without paying tax on the title transfer. Any suggestions? Thanks for your reply
