Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looking into '99 996. This would serve as second/weekend car. I have visions of future track use on a very limited basis. (Did the Dodge Viper Days, had a blast on the road course) Is the 6 speed a safe bet? (haven't driven tip) Is the PSM a desirable feature? (should I try to find on with or without it?) Are there any other features that I should look for or avoid? Are there any performance differences in cab? (sometimes cabs are heavier) It is less desirable for the track but I do live at the beach.......... I realize this may be preference, but any thoughts on the matter would help. Thanks

POST 2Original post

The manual transmission is very nice and a "safe bet". PSM is a good idea depending on your budget. The cab is heavier and has a less rigid body. This makes very little difference when you're driving along the ocean with the top down. Get an extended warranty.

POST 3Original post

The manual transmission is very nice and a "safe bet". PSM is a good idea depending on your budget. It's a safety item that you never know if you will need and will appreciate when it keeps you from getting into trouble. Many owners get along just fine without it on the other hand. I personally never buy a car capable of very high speeds without some type of stability control. The cab is heavier and has a less rigid body. This makes very little difference when you're driving along the ocean with the top down. Get an extended warranty.

POST 4Original post

I've been to some track events (but I've never been to a PCA event) at which a hardtop or rollbar is required.

POST 5Original post

PSM wasn't available on the '99 C2. Traction control was an option though. I had it on mine, not really necessary unless you have a leadfoot in the wet (a nice side benefit is that you get a LSD with it). PSM is way over-rated. It won't change the laws of physics and won't save you from having a big off. But if it gives you peace of mind, go for it. Personally, I'd get one with the 6 speed (way more fun than a Tip), 18" wheels, sport seats and a coupe if you're planning on any trips to the track.

POST 6Original post

What? The limited slip differential was a tag-along with the traction control option on the '99s?
