Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I stopped working on cars when most changed from carburators to fuel injection.
Leading evidence: 'Replace from carburators' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check things' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. This includes oil changes, plugs, suspension work, brakes, performance work, coolant tank, etc.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since the 993s are hard to come by, I'm considering a 996. But from the little I've seen of them they look like a PITA to work, especially on the floor. So has anyone done their own work big or small. What's your experience? It seems as even the plugs are hard to get to.
Thanks
Anything outside of warranty work I do myself, on my back on the floor and in the Garage. I think its easier to work on a 996 then a 993.Plugs are a PIA but possible with out dropping the motor.I think you cant go wrong with a 996.
I've done all the work myself since owning the car. This includes oil changes, plugs, suspension work, brakes, performance work, coolant tank, etc. Plugs take less than 1/2 an hour, as long as you have the tool to reach 'em.
IMO, 996's are far easier to work on than 993, 964, etc.
I echo the above, though I choose to pull my mufflers to do the plugs......I do all my own work......a lift helps, but the vast majority of it can be done with jackstands too.
I used to be a P-tech in the 80s-90s up to the 964s and they weren't too bad. I'm assuming the 993s are the same as the 964s. This is why I thought the 993s were easier to maintain and I wanted to stick with them.
Now, I work on my 85 track car and my daily driver 944(soon to be my backup DD). Love working on my 911 dred my 944.
Just got the 996 about a month ago. Planning on doing all my own work starting with the RMS this weekend, suspension next weekend, and whatever else it throws at me as it comes. I have a lift at my disposal.
I fill up gas myself....detail it myself.....and put on simple mods (doorsills, horsehoe, consoles, mats) myself.....but anything enginewise?!?! I can't even see most of the engine! My sons first remark when he saw the hood open was.....this Porsche has the smallest engine I have ever seen! He is 11, but I still wanted to kick his ash!! I stopped working on cars when most changed from carburators to fuel injection.
I've done plugs and a lot of mods. I would not hesitate to do any thing that was needed including a clutch. So far not much required. It has been a strong car. Change oil and filters and check things.
