I watched part of the process of them being made, and he did a quality job, very clean welds.

To be honest, I don't feel any difference at all, and the power change wasn't a concern of mine, but nice to know.

No longer using a supercharger but instead lots of exhaust and intake work to work with the 268 cams and the VW Motorsport gear box.

After debating on exhaust options for a while, I ended up purchasing an AfterHours exhaust from the classified section on this forum. This was a slightly risky option as I have read little about them, but I am very happy with them so far. My price point was around a grand, and this fell well under my target. I considered Fister, and I have read nothing but great reviews, but they aren't really inexpensive after factoring in ceramic coating and shipping. Additionally, I wanted to keep my OEM mufflers just in case I needed them in the future, for whatever reason. Before core exchange, and shipping, I was looking at an initial cost of about 1300 bucks for Fister. I really wanted the Fister pipes, but I kept balking at the upfront price. I saw the AfterHours mufflers posted in the classified section and decided that for 750 bucks, before shipping, they were worth the risk, and I could keep the stock mufflers.
These mufflers are considerably lighter and weigh just over 8 pounds versus the stock ones, which are 22.5 pounds a piece. They also show some actual power gains. To be honest, I don't feel any difference at all, and the power change wasn't a concern of mine, but nice to know. The real benefit is the sound and weight difference, as they are about 30 pounds lighter overall. To the sound, I think they sound great. Inside of the cabin, I don't notice any drone at all. Under 3,000 rpm, the car doesn't sound even really loud at all. You can definitely notice some sound, but the car is completely reasonable when at constant throttle, which is great for high way trips. The great thing is that it isn't crazy until you want it to be crazy. Meaning, the loud pedal really is right at your right foot. At WOT, it sounds amazing. It has a nice deep growl, and not raspy at all. Its a deep strong sound. It definitely has a lot of sound, but it is no where near what by-pass pipes are. At this point, I am very happy with the purchase and wanted to share my findings, as I haven't seen them mentioned at all here. They are also less than a grand brand new, which I think is a great price point for someone in a similar situation.

As you will notice, the mufflers are ceramic coated. The prior owner did that. I also bought some Porsche tequipment exhaust tips and installed them at the same time. They are WAY nicer than the small 100mm outlet stock ones. They are also stupid expensive brand new, at about 900 bucks! I found them used on Ebay for 200. With a little polish, they shinned right up.

The seller here...glad to hear you are having the same experience with them I very briefly did. Light weight (and the reduction in just the right place), nice sound, great all around; and I didn't realize I was getting an actual power gain! I watched part of the process of them being made, and he did a quality job, very clean welds. It's too bad I sold the car they were transiently on. Glad to hear they found an appreciative home with a fellow 996 enthusiast!

It it has been a work in progress for the past 10 years as a restomod Project. Originally I bought it as my 2nd Corrado in 2005, it would later make a cross country run to the salt flats in 2007 to set the fastest supercharged VW speed of 139mph on the mile.
After returning back to the east coast it continued being used as a weekend track car until 2008 when the loss of compression due to a poor fuel map killed the motor.
As it sit I am just wrapping up some interior items and needling to do the final tuning on the MS3PRO setup. No longer using a supercharger but instead lots of exhaust and intake work to work with the 268 cams and the VW Motorsport gear box.
The big spring rush was to get it to a show for 30 years of the Corrado, but alas issues with the custom baffled pan and oil cooler resulted in it not making it. And so it sits until I have time to finish up some things over winter. Weighing in at 2400lbs the motor will make ~220-260hp to be a fun mountain carver.
Many little custom items from the suspension, to Wilwoods brakes, to the specialized Recaros that I had trimmed to make for a very comfortable seating for extended drives.
The Corrado, 996 and my TT are forever cars with each build over the years being like family members. Corrados have definitely flow under the radar for such rare cars with their values only slightly creeping up. Finding a good one is getting pretty damn hard and the ones that trade hands on BaT tend to not be the best examples. The nicest ones always trade hands behind closed doors between a very small community.
For $5-10k they offer a fantastic experience of a classic 90�s sports car that can be wrenched on very easily.
