Sorry to hear about your fuel issue, I don't really see the connection between that and the intake you installed but won't hurt anything to reverse what you've done and go back to stock.

I have used both the factory airbox with an aftermarket highflow filter and the K&N without oil (with drycharger) on track.

Since you replaced your engine air filter with a new and different one, have you reset your DME so it can re-map itself to the new conditions?

However, if you want to try to make it work, I'd suggest running through several drive cycles to see if the ECU can adjust.

Suggestion
The K&N filter uses filter oil that ruins the MAF sensor, and since it is installed in the engine bay, it pulls in heated air from the engine bay and reduces power.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I dont know if it is a coincidence or as a result of it but I purchased a K&N cold air intake setup. Installed it drove it all day and then later in the day I noticed my low fuel light was flashing. I had filled it earlier in the day. Not much info on this type of error. I did also use some tie wraps around the snorkel to some wrapped wire to stabilize the snorkel. Not sure if I might be tugging on a cable. I am trying to provide as much information as I can.
I need to get a diagnostic tool which I will have in just a few short days. Thats why I posted a thread asking about them as well.
Take it off. Garbage to begin with. If you want some extra noise get the smooth elbow and be done with it.
If you haven't noticed, these cars a little different. The engines are in the rear and for generations, 911's relied on one thing to keep their quirky placed engine cool. Air. Obviously the modern 911 isn't air-cooled, but you'd think a company who's flagship vehicle relied on air-cooling would know a thing or two about designing an efficient airbox? Stock or bust for this part.
Sorry to hear about your fuel issue, I don't really see the connection between that and the intake you installed but won't hurt anything to reverse what you've done and go back to stock.
My snorkel tube didnt line up with the opening in the trunk lid so I zip tied it to a part of the wire harness and it was lined up perfect.
As for it being junk I dont agree but thanks for your opinion I guess.
The best air filter for our engines is the stock air box with paper filter. The snorkle on the stock air box is truly the only cold air intake since it pulls in outside air under the spoiler. The K&N filter uses filter oil that ruins the MAF sensor, and since it is installed in the engine bay, it pulls in heated air from the engine bay and reduces power. I guess from your description maybe you are utilizing the snorkle tube. Guess a picture of your setup would clarify things.
The low fuel light flashing comes from the fuel level sensor (float) in the fuel tank. I cannot see anyway for the fuel level sensor to be impacted by the engine air filter. Maybe it is stuck or hung up.
Since you replaced your engine air filter with a new and different one, have you reset your DME so it can re-map itself to the new conditions?
I agree with others here. It's been learned over and over, that adding a so called "cold air intake" do very little or nothing for the 911 and many end up like you with malfunctions or CEL. Not trying to throw stones, but I'd go back to stock or upgrade to the 997 OEM airbox. However, if you want to try to make it work, I'd suggest running through several drive cycles to see if the ECU can adjust. Good luck!
Flashing light is a different type of warning - here's what the manual says:
If the level gauge warning light flashes,
there has been a system fault.
Additionally, a warning is displayed in the onboard
computer.
There will then be no reserve warning.
To remedy the fault, go to an authorized
Porsche dealer.
Manual says an additional warning will show up in the OBC - do you have any other lights?
My guess - it's unrelated. I also agree re OEM intake. Having to use zip ties to align makes me think "junk".
No other warning lights. No check engine lights. Junk is junk and opinions are opinions. To each there own. I own a 996 I guess I like junk. Look why break *****. Aren’t we all here to help each other out and be enthusiasts. I just don’t get some of these comments. I can’t take it but it’s a major turn off. Who wants to participate if this is how you’ll be treated.
I haven’t done anything to provoke anybody to say rude things to me.
My guess it is just a coincidence. I have used both the factory airbox with an aftermarket highflow filter and the K&N without oil (with drycharger) on track. Initially, I was too skeptical, but I can confirm the K&N cold air intake makes power (on a race track at speed anyway). My 996 C2 was consistently faster by 2 mph by the end of the front straight at Pacific Raceways. As a matter of fact, the reason I switched back to the factory box with highflow air filter is because of comments made on rennlist. However, I have since switched back after a full track day with no plans to reinstall the factory box!
