Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm sure there will be a bias here, duh LOL. Currently driving a 2014 C63 Coupe that is a torque monster..really a german muscle car. Bought this car about a year ago and it's been nothing but pure bliss. Has all the modern amenities(launch control most importantly) with a smooth amazing ride for a coupe. A friend of mine is selling a 02 996TT and willing to give me a amazing deal which I took, but can only keep one car. Love the drivability and modern features of the C63 but cannot beat the looks of the 996TT. This is my third 996TT, but this time around after my experiences with the C63 is way different. Performance wise they are about equal, but what stands out is the torque of the C63..can really throw around with full control. 996TT at this age, can hear all the rattles and can feel every bump in the road, but still love the simplicity, looks, and smooth power it can still produce. I'm really conflicted

POST 2Original post

That choice is on you, which one puts the biggest smile on your face while driving?

POST 3Original post

If longevity is an issue for you; a big question in my head is how will the 2014 C63 age in comparison to the TT. The TT is showing its age right now, as you've pointed out, but it has earned it. Rattles, etc., can be addressed with some new bushings and some extra felt behind the interior trim. Then all you have left is the proven powertrain of the 6TT. I know this is all based on hearsay on my part because I've never owned an AMG, but word on the street tells me they're not great cars (for your wallet,) past 10 years. Granted - neither car's maintenance is going to be as fair to your wallet as a new one. But that's not the question! Me? Short-term I'd have the C63, long-term I'd have the 6TT. I envy your decision!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The 2014 C63 is considered bulletproof...the earlier models had engine stud issues but all addressed long time ago. The interior fit and finish is the same as a standard C250/300 and not a S-class, but still way better than a car for 2002. The C63 exterior looks like a normal C-class with better wheels, dual exhaust, and a C63 badge, just blah, blah. If I had the C63 another year or 2 it would of made the decision much easier and go with the 996TT. My last 996TT that I sold 3 years ago loved mechanics, LOL. It was a 2003 with 17k miles from original owner, but don't let the low miles fool you. My first year of ownership I had to do clutch slave, clutch accumulator, transmission and engine mounts, all three radiator leaked at different times, warped front disc, shocks, and sort out leakes in the turbo system. Believe that car sat too much, so when I bought it and put miles on the car seals and anything rubber started to leak and deteriorated faster. This new 996TT was well sorted the last 10 years except the last 2 years as it was passed to his young teenage son that park outside. Mechanically, still maintained with stacks of dealer services and repairs, but kid didn't take care of paint and interior. Really needs a full detail, paint or wrap center console and other interior plastic because of all the scuffs and scratches, front brake pads. rear tires, and sunroof interior cover somehow detached and is now wedged in the sunroof system. Got it for a hell of a deal, so just snatched it up, but at this point of my life don't really have time for a project. I'm leaning on keeping the 996TT and just workout the kinks as I go.

POST 5Original post

Following the typical merc depreciation the 2014 will lose half its value or more in 5 years. The 996TT wont. If value matters, the choice is simple. Buy another 2014 c63 in 5-7 years.

POST 6Original post

Post 1990s Mercedes bulletproof? No chance! It will fall apart. I am sure it's a blast to drive but you'll be able to buy another one for much less as time passes. Its inevitable. I would actually say the switch would be a good financial decision as well.

POST 7Original post

I used to have a Mercedes fan when I had a 92' 190E years and years ago... great car but I drifted away from Mercedes as they lost it a bit for me. There is a new AMG in my family - doesn't make me smile like my 996 does YRMV!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've never been a fan of Mercedes but the M156 6.2 V8 is truly a great engine. Would highly recommend to any friend or family. My experiences with MB other than the C63 have only been G wagons and they are amazing in their own right. Used to be a BMW fan boy but with last 2 lemon lawed and don't see their build quality getting any better..would not buy another. With modern cars these days especially the luxury german brands, they are a nightmare waiting to happen in due time, especially once warranty runs out...too many gadgets. My last car before C63 was a 2015 Maserati Ghibli and would say worst car experience ever...from dealing with dealer and manufacturer. Thinking it over and looks like some of you have the same conclusion that the 996tt price is at least flat and C63 is depreciating, the C63 will be for sale.

POST 9Original post

It sounds like you already know the answer and just came here for reinforcement?... Eh...first world problem.

POST 10Original post

Sell the AMG, buy the 996TT and enjoy a cheap form of man therapy. Seriously, with all respect to the AMG, those cars don't age well. The Mezger Turbo will hold it's value longer and provides lots of driver engagement that the automatic merc doesn't deliver. The AMG is a beast, but the 996TT is a more tamed animal. The Turbo has better looking headlight too.

POST 11Original post

Although I just have a humble stock non turbo 996, it turns heads way more than any new cars. Also I believe the 911 is a timeless design so age is somewhat irrelevant to anyone who doesnt know 911s. Most other cars on the other hand look dated as soon as a newer model comes out.

POST 12Original post

AMGs values drop like a stone when the car is this new and they keep dropping until they are worth almost nothing (10% of it's new price). The 996TT has already depreciated and will at least keep it's current value. I would say from a financial stand point, keep the TT. My father has a 2005 CL55, he bought it for $15K CDN 4 years ago. You can find them now for around $12-$15CDN and that is stupid cheap considering how expensive they were and the value you get today but this car will never go up in value. Unlike Porsches, people are afraid of old AMGs or old Benzs in general.

The 996TT has ALREADY lost half it's value. Unless this is a pristine, museum-quality car, it's more likely lost 2/3 of its value. I think your point is it's not going to go down much further.

POST 14Original post

I have a 2014 S63 AMG and a 2003 996 tt. I’ve been spoiled by distronic plus , night vision bermister 3D sound with 1640 watts , both are AWD and I’d say equally fast , if I had to get rid of one the Turbo would go. Only for the reason the Turbo is kinda of old school and I’m getting older. But I can have the best of both worlds. So no need for that decision

I think the main point to consider is the Mezger based 996 Turbo/GT cars are the ones to buy because they've already reach the bottom of the depreciation curve and are going up. The 996 Carreras on the hand are holding their own but that's about it. The boxster? Yikes... that car is going down the toilet in value.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Amazing car. Everyone has to try the 6.2L engine at some point of their life as it changed the way I think about MB. The older guys that loved the older MB and say they are bulletproof are the same guys that rather own air cooled over water cooled. I'm a car guy at heart and love cars from every generation and brand. Almost every manufacture have had a collectected car or amazing modern car at one point in time. They all have some weaknesses, but hopefully the strengths outweigh the cons. Will wash car and have some pics soon, plus glad to be back on Rennlist.

I was referring to value today on both cars. The merc still will drop like a rock. The TT has likely bottomed.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

996TT not a current picture but found the dealer that my friend bought it from and they still have the pictures. C63 has the new C63s wheels.
