Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its been suggested to check the transmission ground strap for a problem with my car cranking when hot. The problem started after I got my car back from the body shop for repairs from being read ended (while standing still) on the interstate and it may not have been correctly reinstalled resulting in the starter not getting enough current. Ive took off the under body panels and searched for a ground strap. Ive been looking for a braided medal strap that I assume should be bolted to the transmission housing on one end and to the chassis on the other. I cant find anything that looks even close. Any idea where it should connected to the transmission the front, back, top, bottom left or right. My car is a 1999 996 C2 Coupe. I love the site.

POST 2Original post

There is no ground strap on the transmission. The closest thing you're going to find is the ground strap on the engine which is on bank 2. It looks just like a battery cable coming off the engine near cyl 6 and it connects to the body near the passenger side rear wheel well. Usually if this isnt connected though, the car wont start at all.

POST 3Original post

there is a small junction box above the transmission but its a hot 12v connection I Have heard stories of corrosion there casuing problmes but i have never seen it myself
