Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've had my 99 Cab just over a week now and have the following problem, not sure whether I've missed something about the immobilizer, or the battery is going flat. Any advice would be welcome. Sometimes when I try and start the car, I turn the key and nothing happens. Get out of the car, lock and unlock the doors, get back in and it starts up fine. I read the manual last night on the immobilizer and it doesn't seem like this should be the cause. Anyone got any ideas? Keith

POST 2Original post

I had this problem happen last week. 99-01 models had faulty ignition switches prone to wearing out. I had my iginition switch replaced with an upgrade switch last Friday, and no more problems whatsoever. The part was $122 and labor is 2.5 hours. Total cost from my independent Porsche/German specialist was $540.

POST 4Original post

Also - make sure you press the clutch in all the way - every time - or the car will not start. Sounds simple, but not all cars do this - and it catches people out. Chris.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Chris. That's embarassing. When the car wouldn't start, it was due to me not depressing the clutch. My old 79 911, which I just sold didn't have that feature and that was the only other stick shift I have driven in the US being another ex-pat Brit. Joe picture attached. Keith

POST 6Original post

Hey Keith, glad I could be of service It's a common problem when people switch to P Cars or go from Auto to stick shift - ask me how I know! Cheers Chris.
