Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Should I replace the clutch when I have the RMS done?
Leading evidence: 'Replace clutch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace also' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Based on the technician's recommendation I went ahead and replaced the clutch at the same time.

The RMS was replaced a couple hundred miles ago and the clutch has been worn about 75%.

PS I found your post and that helps, but still wondering about the flywheel and if I should have it replaced also.

When I was talking to the service dept he seemed to think it was best to replace the flywheel also.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well, it looks like I can only thank you guys for such good advice over the past couple of weeks. I have not posted here before but I have been following some of the threads.
Last Friday I picked up my
2000 C4 Coupe Silver
with 49,000 miles.
The only way I was able to convince the wife was to give up smoking
Still, it was well worth it....
I sat with the service mgt for about an hour that day going over the 120 point inspection that was done and asking other general questions. Test drive was strong.
The RMS was replaced a couple hundred miles ago and the clutch has been worn about 75%.
When I got home I saw an oil leak (small) so took it back thinking about the RMS and had the tech look at it and said the RMS would have to be done again.
Not a big deal, being that it doesn't cost me a dime and they are going to come to my place to drop off the loner car.
I love this car and nothing can take that away not even RMS
So to get to the Question....
1. Should I replace the clutch when I have the RMS done? It will save about 10 hours of billable work? Car has 49,000 miles on it
They quoted me $1700 for Clutch kit and flywheel with 3 hours labor included.
More Question to come later.
Thanks
I asked the same question last week. My car is currently at the dealer for RMS leak too. Based on the technician's recommendation I went ahead and replaced the clutch at the same time. My flywheel did not need any service (thank god), so I saved myself $1K. If your clutch has only 25% left I would go ahead and replace it. The part is not that expensive and you will have to do it eventually.
Yes to the color combo
I wanted to make the car stand out. Not that it doesn't but I tried blurring the background and only have the car in focus.
What can I say? I lost the original photo
When I was talking to the service dept he seemed to think it was best to replace the flywheel also. Not that it needed it but that the next thing to go could be the flywheel.
What are your thoughts on how long a flywheel should lasts and when should it be replaced?
PS I found your post and that helps, but still wondering about the flywheel and if I should have it replaced also.
One word of (albeit, unsolicited) advice: You should get yourself some floor mats, that'll prevent the carpet from getting permanently damaged -- Metro blue is too nice to stain / rip permanently.
Also, the silver C4 logo at the back: is that standard for C4's? Or did you change over from black to silver?
I'll take any and all advise.... So long as it is good advise.
As for the floor mats it's just the driver side that is missing (would you know it) and it also has been on the top of my list to replace.
I guess I will check out eBay and get a complete set.
I believe an article about the 2000 C4 said " Carrera 4 comes with a different wheel design, plainly visible titanium-color brake calipers and a titanium-color logo on the rear engine hood."
http://www.internetautoguide.com/rev...000/index.html
That would be a 'yes' on the decklid badge being standard silver, along with the brake calipers. I believe it started with the 993 C4.
Evan, looks sharp and welcome to the club! These mods are probably already on your list:
3-spoke steering wheel
clear sidemarkers
lthr/alu shifter/boot & brake handle
chrome large-oval exhaust tips
litronics retrofit kit
and who can forget -- aerokit!
I asked them to examine the flywheel and give me a recommendation. They said the flywheel looked fine (at 36K miles) so it did not need changing, so I only changed the clutch.
I'm not that mechanically inclined, but I think a flywheel should last a lot longer than 49K miles. I'm assuming that your clutch is not slipping yet. If they are on the level with you, I don't see how they can recommend changing the flywheel without even looking at it. I wouldn't be so quick to let them change the flywheel, I would ask them how much is left on the flywheel and if it can be resurfaced.
Yes, the Tequipment large ovals (or other aftermarket equivalents) are direct replacement bolt-ons. The litronics are the HID headlamp units, and they're simple plug-and-play (provided you don't need the high-beam assist feature, which requires additional wiring).
Welcome!!! The car looks sharp!! You can get the Lloyds mats with your Carrera 4 logo on them. Look for ads in Excellence Magazine. Would look great with your interior.
