Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It looks like it could use some rubber conditioner, but I defiantly wouldn't say that it appears to be in bad shape.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all - I received my second CEL in three weeks on my '99 C4 - P0455. Both times the light came on when launching in first gear from a stop. Both times it happened the day after I got gas. Does anybody have any ideas about what could be causing this and where to start checking for problems? Thanks, Jeff

POST 2Original post

Are you running the engine when filling the tank with gas? This is a classic "gas cap off" error. Make sure the car is off when filling it up. Also, make surethat the "O" ring is in good shape on the cap and apply a thin coat of vasoline to it.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the quick response! I always replace the gas cap before starting the car. I just ran out to the parking lot and checked the cap. It is part # 996.201.241.03 - The o-ring is still in place. It looks like it could use some rubber conditioner, but I defiantly wouldn't say that it appears to be in bad shape.

POST 4Original post

If all else fails, try this. There is a sensor on top of the fuel tank. There are wires that go to it. (Remove the battery and you can get to the area I'm speaking of) Dont ask me how this can happen, but I have seen it a couple of times. Mice ( or rats?) can get in this area and eat the wires.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
