Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
Does anyone have experience with an exhaust Leak code on their OBD reader? I have a 2000 996 C4 with a check engine getting exhaust leak code.
Is a leak something an amateur could diagnose and find the location of? Or best to go to a good mechanic? Thanks!
Its very very likely between the head and the O2 sensor.. I think there are 2 junctions on each side before the O2, the head to the header and the header to the crossover pipe. soeither exhaust manifold gasket or the joint from the header to the crossover pipe.. Or a crack in the exhaust tubing...
One of those sad, either easy as heck or oh my god jobs..
This is a second-hand suggestion, but ...
I have a friend who swears by his electronic gas leak detector, which he bought online for around $35. He's demonstrated this to me and it seems absurdly sensitive. I suspect this could be a good way to pinpoint exhaust or AC system leaks.
I can hear the slightest exhaust leak. The gaskets (head to header or header to cat pipe) probably need replacing. Make sure everything is torqued (17#) to spec.
After spending some time with it (which I should have done before posting admittedly) I now have realized this too.
Unfortunately, this is a persistent issue not affected by my gas cap being taken off and then put back on correctly. Also, it comes back once codes are reset.
Any thoughts on what else this could be?
I went through this too, it was the gas cap. Look at the rubber seal inside the cap. If it has any cracks, it could be your issue. Many others have gone through the same.
Don't buy just any old gas cap...get a new gas cap from Porsche. One that is the right one for your car.
