I used the dual row version of it and when I noticed that it was coming apart, I PM's him to let the new owner of his car (he already sold the car by then) know that there is a good chance the single row he used will fail too.

Note: I wouldn't run those for a kart rear axel bearing much less in a $25k+ engine!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I bought 2 brand new "IMS" bearings for just $7.45 on Amazon. They're the same size as a factory IMS bearing. Can't wait to install one. Ha! I wonder how long it would last. I bought these bearings to demonstrate removing IMS bearings in my "education only" M96. I would only install the IMS Solution.

SAAWEET! Order a case and mark them up 1000% and make some $$. Note: I wouldn't run those for a kart rear axel bearing much less in a $25k+ engine! THE Solution is the solution.

Hey - I know a 996 that still has its original bearing to be pulled when you get done practicing! The owner also has a set of really nice hydraulic ramps too! 😀

No, he used a bearing assembled by BOCA Bearings in Florida and it was a ceramic hybrid bearing. I used the dual row version of it and when I noticed that it was coming apart, I PM's him to let the new owner of his car (he already sold the car by then) know that there is a good chance the single row he used will fail too. He ignored my PM and shortly after the new owner posted the infamous thread that the bearing failed.

Are you conducting classes now Tex? Consulting? Seems like I remember you saying you took one of Raby's rebuild classes. Am I wrong?

That 6204RS bearing is also used in just about every riding lawn mower made. Has a pair on each blade in the "jackshaft" housing assembly. Can bought by the dozen for $20 bucks...lol

POST 15Original post

They sell them in 2 packs. OMG!! what a find you know Penguin.. Like Pelican.

Smart move getting two. Toss the second one into the glove box to use as a spare if you have a failure. ;-)

I only teach basic Automotive 101 classes. R&R of an IMSB is WAY beyond my students. These bearings are just for me to play with. Although I have had some that are interested in learning more about engine internals. Ive even shown the M96 engine on a stand to a few. Today Im going to R&R an AC compressor for a student. Actually HE is going to do the work while I instruct and supervise. Ive only taken the online M96/M97 and 9A1 classes from Jake. I hope to make the next M96/97 hands on class.

Tex, I have a ac compressor (from the m96) that I'd like to R&R. Can you post the process?

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 16103721

R&R = Repair and Replace I can give basic instructions: (I've not done a 996 yet) Recover refrigerant with ac AC Recovery machine, Remove the AC lines. Remove the serpentine belt. Remove any bolts holding the compressor. Install new compressor. Install new lines (Replace o-rings as necessary) install new serpentine belt Using the recovery machine, place a vacuum on the system Wait 30 minutes to make certain that vacuum holds. Recharge system to specified amount. It helps that I have a recovery machine and scales at home. Nissan book time was 3.5 hours. It took us 2.5 hours.
