Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had a spare, and it actually got flat on my way to get my new tires mounted, after I ran over a nail.

As far as replacing the whole unit all that matters is diameter of the tire & bolt pattern.

Any of you have any luck using a different style spare taken from another vehicle?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had a spare, and it actually got flat on my way to get my new tires mounted, after I ran over a nail. Long story short, the continental tire that is specific for our spare tire, is extremely hard to find, and is about $125 if you can find it. Junkyards have spares but the rubber is very old and the price is still over $100. Any of you have any luck using a different style spare taken from another vehicle?
I had the fix a flat in a can with the air compressor in my previous 987S boxster and I wasn't a fan. I like the feeling of having a spare tire, if needed, especially on a road trip.
Any of you have any ideas, regarding a suitable spare tire replacement? I have AAA and can use it any time, but something doesn't feel right about not being able to change your own tire in 15 mins, if needed, and get back on the road.
Nothing is available - you can try the dealership but its pricey - i'd recommend getting the highest level roadside assistance you can and get a spare off ebay just in case. Provided it holds air it will get you somewhere regardless of age just drive on it accordingly if need be.
As far as replacing the whole unit all that matters is diameter of the tire & bolt pattern. If you can find a tire store that is a official Contenental dealer they can order a replacement tire for you. It may be hard to find a store to mount the tire on the rim. Some spacesaver wheels have multiple bolt patterns. Must spacesavers require 60 psi & yes they can lose PSI over time. Whenever I am driving out of town I check psi on all 5 tires.
Yes temperature & speed is a factor, I have driven a 1979 Olds Cutlass 300 miles in 80 degree heat on a properly inflated spacesaver.
Also drove my '71 Trans Am 455 with 2 spacesaver tires on the rear, very easy to do doughnuts this way but they get bald really quick!
Agh I digress.
I'd just carry an old tire, it's better than nothing and only needs to hold air long enough to get you home. Also, the spare tire is technically considered part of the the structure of these cars for their crash rating IIRC.
