Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Recently (couple of months ago) installed H&R RSS Clubsport coilovers on my '99 C2. The left rear has been clicking/popping when the load shifts from front to rear. I thought initially it was the sway bar end links so I disconnected both sides and it still make the noise. It sounds like a metallic sharp cracking/popping noise. Took it in for an alignment after I installed and asked them to check it out but they said everything looked fine. It was a rushed appointment (we can fit you in) so they really didn't have time to dig deep or try to replicate. They just checked to see if everything was tight. Although they apparently didn't check to make sure they tightened locknut on front steering arm after alignment that I found... I've done 2 track days and it still makes the noise. I took the coilover off and looked it over. My guess is that the spring is compressed and touching itself at the top and maybe it is the spring making the noise as it moves? There was some wear marks where the springs sit on each other when compressed. I've some some springs with a silicone sleeve around part of the spring so I'm thinking maybe mine should had had that? My plan was to swap the assembly from left to right to see if the noise moved with the assembly to narrow down the cause. Anyone have same sound or know if the springs should have had the silicon sleeve around the top section of coils? Thanks, Kevin

POST 2Original post

Have you checked the rest of the suspension. , ie bushes , coffin arms , etc installing coilovers on otherwise tired suspension puts extra stress on the rest of the components , any worn bushes or end links can wear even faster and start to make noises
