Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

dont get me wrong my car is great, the refinement, interior, performance. But something is lacking--The visceral feel of a fat a$$ 993 TT --standing still it looks like its flying- Ive sat and driven a few 993 dont remeber the drive though--but i remeber the interior as dated and a little tired Is this a crazy thought or are the others like me out there!??!?!?!?!? Mike

POST 2Original post

The interior is a bit dated, but the exterior looks phenomenal! The other thing about the 993TT is that if you buy it, you could probably sell it in a few years at very little loss. They have maintained their value SO well!

POST 3Original post

Totally different cars..........& 993 is perfect for some people (rarely 996 fans....though I am one). You will always get respect in a 993........and a different feel every time you get in and 'click' the door shut. On the interior being dated.......I'd say 997 is 'dated' to late 80s Detroit........993 is a dated to 'sports car'.....you can actually read speed in the center of the console

POST 4Original post

I love the 993TT!!!! Not a crazy thought at all.... From the outside, it is a work of art. It's the interior that deters me from buying one.

POST 5Original post

I saw a BEAUTIFUL 993 Turbo at Newport Porsche this weekend - 4600 miles. They were having their 997 Turbo rollout party - talk about lusting after something. However, I too think the interior is too "audi" or something. Not a huge fan yet. Anyway, the 993 looks awesome from the outside still, but the interior does look dated to me. I wouls still love to have it though.

POST 6Original post

I wouldn't trade my C4S for a 993tt, however, I would own both in a heartbeat if I had the financial means.

POST 7Original post

Really? Not at the race track unless it's an RSCS and even they are afraid of the X51 package Mike has on his 40th. (There is a group of RSCS racers trying to get the X51 moved to a faster class.) Having said that I really like the 993TT but let's be fair about what it is. It's a very pretty, very heavy, fairly powerful car full of 10 year old technology stuffed in a 40 year old chassis. So now that you know it's not that great, anyone have one they want to sell me cheap?

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

JimB--thats pretty funny Yeah you sit back convince yourself --"yeah its not that great" but hey can I buy one cheap or a good deal---HELL YEAH!!!!--but thats the story with all things--we all want a deal Thanks for the input Mike

POST 9Original post

Agree with JimB 100% re racing. However, the 993TT is a beast on the street/DE's, I actually tried to buy one recently. Repair bills are $$$$$$, keep that in mind. As bad as a RMS is, valve guides are about 10k before you're done, and scheduled maint. is a fortune. The one I looked at needed 9k worth of top end work, only 40k miles.

POST 10Original post

They're such beautiful cars ... sigh ... thought about one long & hard before going with '03 996 because I didn't like the interior. Not a one goes by on the road that doesn't make me wonder if I made the right choice. Classic Porsche - beautiful lines ...

POST 11Original post

Not crazy. Somday I'll probably own a 993. The 996 is a great all around car, but I do miss the more visceral feel of the older 911's, and well I'm just fickle that way

POST 12Original post

You don't need to spend big bucks for viceral feeling. A SC will do just fine!

POST 13Original post

Not crazy as long as you do not hear your 996 requesting a 993.

POST 14Original post

I'm with most above, I lust after a 993TT. As with my other dreams -- several Ferraris and a 67 E-Type FHC -- unless I hit it insanely big one day, it is wiser to be an admirer than an owner. -- M

POST 15Original post

I'm with Jim.... I think the 993TT is a great car, but I wouldn't trade my 996 for one. IMHO, the 996 has better looks, a much more sophisticated chassis, it's lighter and more tossable, and it doesn't give up too much in the power department (power to weight). If you want "more visceral" than the 996, get the 996 GT3 in my opinion.

POST 16Original post

Jim.........race context is different.......I think you are the 1st to bring it up. Down the street and most anywhere, I still say the 993 gets respect. It has been my experience anyway (per attention & conversation) as most days of the week I'm driving 'later' year Pcars.

POST 17Original post

...or just rip out the sound deadening. you'll get that viceral feeling real quick just take a ride in my car. you won't think it's a marshmallow at all.

POST 18Original post

Well, I have has 2 996 C2's and one 996 C4S. Now I own a 97 993TT. Here is my take on it. The power is just nuts. It is civil around town, but put the hammer down and POW you are pinned back in your seat. The creature comforts are lacking vs. the 996 and it is rough. But that is the appeal of it. Plus it sounds much meaner than the 996 with bypass pipes Now the maint costs are high, unless it has been taken care of correctly. I am finding that you can do a fair amount of work yourself as well. There are a decent number of recylers out there for sourcing parts as well. That being said, I am with Raid. I would love to have my C4S and the TT (the C2's were a take it or leave it).

POST 19Original post

As JimB stated, the 993TT is nice/powerful car but it is a very heavy car, feels almost piggish around corners. I always wanted a 993TT because the way it looks but once I rode in one, my lust for it slowly wore off. Now, that was a stock 993TT that I was in, Im sure the modded ones are much different.

POST 20Original post

Gregg, It's a Porsche. It's reputation and the respect that it deserves comes directly from it's performance on the track. It always has. Anyway, I'm sure not bashing 993s. I've owned one and liked it. Just don't imply that they somehow deserve or receive more respect than a 996. The 996 has earned it's respect where it counts. IMHO See you at RA one of these days. Have a great holiday. Jim

POST 21Original post

You too Jim.........we were up at Sprints last weekend......great time.

POST 22Original post

You'd only be crazy if you've never lusted over them 993TT's. I've always wanted a Porsche and when I was ready to buy one it was the 993TT, Duh!. Infact, I started out in the 993tt forum looking for the TT. All this time my wife was telling me to at least go to the local porsche dealer and check the latest 911, and I refused. How could have Porsche let me down, water cooled and no round lights, blasphemy. I once even flew across the country to test drive a TT and had placed a deposit , and then it fell through. Then I heard about the new gt3 and thought that would be ok, and started calling the entire country and none were available as I was late to the waiting lists. Then finally the dealer in columbus said he will be able to get one in 3 mos if I placed a deposit, and to come on down to discuss the options. My wife and I drove there only to find out he was just saying that to get me there, and there were no gt3's available. But, I got to see them new 911's close and personal and a kernal of doubt came over as to whether I could be wrong. Later that wknd I decided to go to my local dealer to just check out the 996, to this point never even thought about looking in to those,...how could I, they are water pumpers. What can I say, them Porsche engineers know what they are doing. I loved everything about the 996C4S except the dash board. I love the gauge setup in the 993's, and I hated them in the 996 (I have grown to sort of like them now). But, I fell in love with everything else about the car and bought it that same wknd. It's been 3 yrs.,....The ear to ear grin is permanently etched, and I still cannot walk away from my car without constantly turning to admire it. Now that's just the looks, after having tracked it, now I know how naive I was growing up thinking I only really, really. REALLY wanted a Porsche, now I know I NEED it. I've seen many 993TT's on the road since then, and I love to see any p-car on the road, but I have not even for a second considered selling my C4S for a 993TT. Would I like to have a 993TT next to my baby, now IMHO one has to be crazy to even ask that question
