Suggestion

If you have a memory seat set the last/rear one to have the outside mirrors tilt down just enough to avoid the glare from the rear at night.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here is the pricing i got from a place X for auto-dimming interior and driver side mirrors: Inside Mirror Kit $163.08 Driver's Door Kit $255.98 Driver's Door Harness $310.93 that is $730 -- ouch. is this really how much they cost??

POST 2Original post

Any Porsche parts are more expensive no matter what it is, Oops!!. I also own a BMW, a 5-serie as my daily-driver so I can relate to your situation. For just mirror upgrade, that's expansive... Good luck!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

heh, yeah... i am so spoiled by all the luxury in my 750 - porsche is so bare compared to it. but a bit more fun to drive. just a bit

POST 4Original post

put a pair of shades on at night....$150 for designer on sale....$5 for knock offs.....put the savings into....eh...well...you know....uh....a lot of other mods!.....sports exhaust, CF interior pieces....side skirts.....etc.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

heh... i tried wearing my D&G shades in the club a few times. while i looked "cool" i couldn't see a thing. so i am done with wearing shades after sunset. i'll get auto-dimming mirrors AND sports exhaust. i'd love to get CF, but i dont see much value in it anymore... i'd rather save the money toward a 997

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i dont think i'd like it since i like to have my V1 in the road line-of-sight.

POST 9Original post

I found an auto dimming mirror with Homelink on E-Bay for $140. Works great and killed two birds with one stone.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

does it work with external mirrors? my guess external mirrors autodim when they get a signal from the internal rear view mirror. do you know who made your mirror? got pics? thx...

POST 11Original post

When I as looking I couldn't find any aftermarket people that made a mirror to fit. The ones available required the entire mirror assy. to be removed, didn't want to risk the windshield removing the OE bracket. Kindly provide manu., I'm still sort of interested.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

as far as i understand, the aftermarket mirrors i am getting are porsche OEM

POST 14Original post

The mirror was made by Gentex. I haven't taken any photos but you can see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT I tapped into the same 12 volts in the overhead console area that I used for hard wiring my Valentine. It does not dim the exterior mirrors. I removed the standard mirror but left the original mirror wedge in place and installed the mirror to the immediate left of the original wedge. Unless you are looking for it, you would never be able to tell. The mirror is wider than the factory mirror as well giving a broader view out the rear window.
