Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Test drove a 2002 996 cab earlier today and asked the P-dealer if the car was Porsche CPO. He said no and the reason he gave was that 'although the car has brand new tires, they aren't Porsche approved tires and hence we can not sell this car as a Porsche CPO' Does this make any sense, or should I smell a rat here? thx.

POST 2Original post

What is the speed rating of the tires?? and should the car still have remaining regular warranty??

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

not sure on speed rating; I belive remaining warranty was another month or two

POST 4Original post

That is the biggest pile of crap I have ever heard. Actually not, but pretty damn close and not surprised to hear that coming from a dealer. Very simple for them to either (1) put N rated tires on the damn thing or (2) swap tires from another car that is NOT a CPO that has N rated tires onto yours. If you are interested in the car and the deal is in your favor.......tell them to put a set of N rated tires on it and CPO it or you are walking. Too many cars out there to allow a dealer to lie to you and think you are really that stupid to believe that line from them. It never ceases to amaze me the lines salesmen will think they can get away with. Problem is that many people believe those lines. Keep looking.......

POST 5Original post

He may just be a stupid dealer, or a cheapskate one. Too stupid to think of changing out the tire, or too cheap to put the right tires on. Or, as mentioned, there's something else wrong with the car and that's why it can't be CPO and the tires are just a cover-up. Walk away from this one. A good used P-car is a joy to own, the wrong and neglected one can be a nightmare money pit. Just check out Bob. His story is one for the record books. If it can be believed.

POST 6Original post

I would tell him to change the tires, and CPO it or walk. Sounds like total BS to me. Oh and don't let him tell you it will cost you an extra 4k or any of that nonsense.

POST 7Original post

Hmmmm, maybe the car has been crashed and repaired. If the car is still under warranty then the dealer should be able to CPO for a mere $1500 (cost of the CPO warranty) because all repairs to pass the CPO inspection would be covered by the warranty. But a car with major body damage, even if repaired, cannot be CPO.

POST 8Original post

Big line of BS - the tires have nothing to do with anything covered under the CPO warranty. Find another dealership or if this is one of your few options, talk to the sales manager.

POST 9Original post

This will help you to identify the speed rating. H - 130 mph 210 km/h Sport Sedans & Coupes V - 149 mph 240 km/h Sport Sedans, Coupes & Sports Cars When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified. That ultimately caused the automotive industry to add W- and Y-speed ratings to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high top-speed capabilities. W - 168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars Y - 186 mph 300 km/h Exotic Sports Cars While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.

POST 10Original post

Roger that. The dealer either doesn't want to spare the expense to CPO the car, or the car has been in a noteworthy accident and therefore cannot have a CPO. Walk away from this dealer or find another salesman. Trust is the only way to begin a new car experience. What if you have a problem down the road?

POST 12Original post

I hate to say it but, the car has to have Porsche Approved tires in order for them to do the CPO. I know its not right but that is the rules set by PCNA. I agree get them to swap tires to The N1 and get the CPO or walk, way too many Porsches out there.
