Since purchase I have added the litronic HID head lights, carbon fiber brake handle, IPOD Aux kit, in dash cup holder tray, changed the oil, and gear oil, flushed the hydraulics, changed the front brake pads.

I am guessing he used carfax to see how many owners it had.

Suggestion
Prior to purchasing this car I looked at a 99 C2 with 55k miles, super clean 90% condition, the 3rd party dealer wanted $41k for it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys
Fellow member RAC and I are going to look at a 99 Blue C4 on Saturday (for him). We have been trying to establish a fair price.
Car has small Carbon Package
No paintwork
Xenons
Dark gray interior
35k miles
and is a one owner
Got any ideas?
Tim
I really don't think there is much of a premium for the C4 in the used market. I would think it would be worth slightly more than a C2. I think a good deal on that car as a C2 would be $29K-$33K. For the C4...If you got it for $32.5K, that would't be bad. I wouldn't pay more than $35K.
What are they asking?
mark
$45K
They must really like their cars
Obviously, its WAY over priced. I still say $35K is a very fair price. You wouldn't be getting some great deal but wouldn't be over paying either.
Good luck...let me know how it goes.

To help you negotiate, you may want to go on ebay or autotrader or cars.com and print off some other listings. They will be asking prices, but you should be able to find a ton of similar cars listed in the $33k to $37K range. Remember, that is that listing price.
Again, good luck.

Well found out a little more about the car. The msrp was 83,632 and it appears to have 3 owners. It also had 5 warranty claims, 1 claim was turned down by Porsche, and 1 maintance order in the Porsche system. I know of one other '99 C4 in the area asking price was $37.5.
Rocky Mountain Autosport had one on ebay a few days / weeks ago. I did a "watch" on it to see where it would sell at. It went to $30,200 and didn't hit the reserve. Item # 4613583792
If that isn't the one you are considering, you should check it out. I think it is Cobalt Blue, but it could be another bright blue. Looks nice.
Good luck

Don't waste your time even making an offer on this car, it sounds like trouble with a capital "T"

Ok, I have to ask, why do you think this?
3 owners in about 6 years for one thing, and the denied warranty claim for another. They deny claims for "driver abuse" mostly, and that always sets off a red flag for me.
I gave the VIN to a person I know that can use Porsche's computer system. I am guessing he used carfax to see how many owners it had. Not sure if the Porsche's computer would know how many owners it had. I hope to stop by and talk to him about it again. I also want to know more about the claim that was denied. Sure it could have been abuse or maybe the car was just out of warranty. If it was carfax for the number of owners, that may be suspect. I have seen one owner cars before being reported as more then one owner.
I personally don't see a problem with 3 owners. Would 1 be better...sure. But, I usually keep a car for 1 to 2 years. Not because I have trashed the car, I just want to try something else. I bet there is just as much of a likelyhood of that than car abuse. With only 35K miles in 6 years, it probably wasn't the only car for each of the 3 owners. I would try to find out more on the warranty.

Post number 3, scroll up. Good luck with your decision either way amigo, but those are the reason's I'd do some detective work .
FWIW, I paid $38k for my 99 C4 in Oct, 2005. No frills, standard C4 with 18" solid spoke wheels, in dash CDR-220 CD player. Car was in what I call 85% condition. Few minor door dings and scratches, new clutch was put in at 50k miles by previous owner, all service records were avaliable and were done at a Porsche dealer. Slight RMS leak, which I can live with.

I guess in California the 996 are still bring in a decent price especially in OC.
For $38k I thought it was a lot of bang for the buck and so far I pretty happy with the car.
Since purchase I have added the litronic HID head lights, carbon fiber brake handle, IPOD Aux kit, in dash cup holder tray, changed the oil, and gear oil, flushed the hydraulics, changed the front brake pads.
I have been having so much fun with the car, now I need new rear tires.....
Oh BTW, I am the 3rd owner
I agree if someone looked in CarFax it shows odd amounts of owners all the time. The car would probably show registered to a dealer, the owner, then the current dealer.
We will see what Porsche says about the car. I have had warrenty claims denied before on my BMW's so that is not a "red flag" so to speak. Just need to find out what its history is.
We are meeting to check the car out on Saturday. We will see.
I paid 29k in oct 2005 for a '99 C4
sport seats, three spoke wheel, lightronics, carbon sills, shifter and handbrake, 18" w/ brand new eagle F1s, just went off extended warranty and just had the 90k service, 2 owner, never an RMS or clutch I have 96k on it now ... very happy ... need nose repainted and a ROW 030 then I'll be thrilled
