Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Thinking of joining my local SCCA for some Autocross fun.. How many of you are active? Tips n tricks to make the most of my 996?

POST 3Original post

I've been a member for 36 years. Became a member to get my PRO Rally license. Ran stage rallies until SCCA killed the program in 2003. Found autocross - which is what you will get the most of from your 996. The primary types of events include: Road Racing (also includes time trials/ track days) Road Rally RallyCross Autocross (Solo) Still active as a competitor and organizer. Have also been (and still am) an elected official of my local (Detroit) region. I might be able to answer specific questions.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Autocross is all we have here. With such a small group on island it might be fun.

Right. Small groups equate to lots of runs. We usually get between 150 - 200 competitors and typically four runs/ driver. You may get 6 - 10 runs!

POST 6Original post

I've been a member on and off since the mid 80s. I'm currently a member, but haven't been on a track or autocross course since 1998. One of these days maybe I'll get on track. All the autocrosses(SCCA, PCA, and BMWCCA) are on Sunday morning which prevents me from going. Most track day events are two day(Saturday & Sunday) and I'd hate to spend money for just one day. I might make an SCCA track night though.

POST 7Original post

SCCA track nights seem like a great value. I just joined last year.

POST 8Original post

I have done several Track Night In America events at Thunderhill and they are a great value. I am not an SCCA member and that is not required to participate in these events. The only issue I have had is some of the participants are gaming the system. That is to say, this is an amatuer event designed to get people on track. They were allowing race prepped cars towed in on trailers to run. I was in the intermediate group and basically went down to the beginner group in order to have "fun". TO be clear, I am not against going down a class, but race prepped Mustangs, Vett's Bimmers (roll cages, track tires, gutted) should not be on the same track as street cars. When I went to the beginner class, I was constantly passing, which is not really fair to those participants. Give it a try as each track runs their own event and may be better policed than at Thunderhill.

POST 9Original post

Been doing SCCA stuff for most of my life. I usually race a C5 Corvette. This is me. You Tube I've also run my Porsche 955 Cayenne twin turbo S and my 02 996 cab. The 996 was so different than what I was used to. Getting it to rotate was tough. It wants to push when you mash the gas and turn the wheel. It hooks up extremely well when putting power to the ground. All in all a fun, fast car to autocross. But I was far from setting the Fastest Time of the Day when running the 996.
